Becher Chase 2009 Betting Tips Odds And Preview
Friday 20 November 2009 at 17:03
The Becher Chase is seen as the best Grand National trial over the famous Aintree fences and Sunday renewal looks as competitive as ever despite a smaller than field than usual with only eight runners.
Hughes For Follow Up Win
Last year’s winning trainer Dessie Hughes sends over Vic Venturi this time in a bid to emulate the resounding success by Black Apalacchi in this race twelve months ago. Hughes has been quoted as thinking that this race could suit Vic Venturi and the bookmakers seem to concur with Bet365 and Paddy Power making the nine-year-old gelding the 3/1 favourite for Sunday’s race.
Twister Double Handed
Two-time Grand National winning trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies has two entries in the Becher Chase, Hello Bud and Irish Raptor, and both look to have outstanding chances. Hello Bud was the winner of the Scottish National last season and has caught the eye in two outings this season. He has an exuberant style of jumping and looks tailor-made for the Grand National fences.
Irish Raptor has a wealth of experience at Aintree despite never actually getting into the Grand National itself. This will be the seventh time he has raced over the National fences, including when victorious in the 2009 Topham Chase. Stan James for the Becher Chase and Irish Raptor is also 6/1 with Skybet.
Watch Out For Idle Talk
Also to the fore in Sunday’s betting is Idle Talk from the Donald McCain yard. Idle Talk has tried the Aintree fences four times before and has shown up well for a long way on each occasion. He could play a big part on Sunday for this yard with historic associations with Aintree. Idle Talk is 13/2 for the Becher Chase with Coral.
