In 6f contests at Chester it typically pays to be ridden prominently and particularly from a low draw. Old Chums catches the eye from stall 2 for Tom Dascombe who won this in 2021 and effectively in 2022 after handing over the reigns to Hugo Palmer. Has shown strong level of form since the fitting of cheekpieces, winning 2 and finishing 2nd the last twice latterly from a mark of 70. 2lbs higher today but front two were clear of the rest and a mark of 72 should still be workable.

Made most to win cosily on debut last time, and although the form hasn't been franked since repeat tactics at a track where it so often pays to be up with the pace could yield the same result. Few 2yo winners in the family so clearly a promiscuous bunch and the low draw is a big plus over this C&D.

Forward going sort from a low draw (stall 1) and the form of his win last time has been franked with the runner up winning twice since and now rated 73. Kings Merchant goes today from a mark of 75 on handicap debut but was giving away 5lbs last time in novice company and was travelling strongly at the line to suggest this mark is more than workable.

Two wins from three efforts over C&D, winning at this meeting last year from a mark of 92. Good run in Meydan two starts back which suggests that this mark of 97 is still within reach, and he's likely to go forward from a low draw which has historically been a huge positive at Chester.
