This horse is well-in on turf and looks likely to go in again here. Much improved by switching to this stable this season and likely a bit more to come. Andrew Balding had got a lamentable record here with his older horses but he did break his duck at the last meeting. BALNAGORE would have rated a big danger over an extra couple of furlongs.

The Racing Post correspondent claims ‘There is no question he is better on polytrack’. Well, I am going to question that! He has won or been placed in half his 8 turf starts. The truth is that he has improved nicely during his last 6 runs which all happened to have been on the AW. On his last run on turf, he was behind today’s favourite BEAVER PATROL and he is 5lb better off for a beating of 2 ¾ lengths. If he is fully wound up after his break, he must go well here off a much lower turf mark than his AW rating.

VAL DU CIRON is the type of horse who will certainly improve at some stage on recent exploits. Henrietta Knight has started to have a few winners after a prolonged quiet spell and although this chap had a torrid time over the bigger obstacles last time, he may do better here. He did not go on at all after a promising debut win in a Ludlow bumper and he is a risky bet. However, if he is well and gets into a nice rhythm then he could well finish close up. May trade shorter if he does travel well and it might be worth laying him at a shorter price turning for home.

I shook off the suggestion that this mare may not be entirely straightforwards last time and it cost me dear! However, she has definite ability and I think this bigger field and likely sound pace to be right up her street. A definite each way play given her profile but at 8/1, she is a play. AKRAM looks plenty short enough.
