Cheltenham Gold Cup Repeat For Kauto Star
|
17/02/08
Ali v Frazer, Manchester Utd v Arsenal, Coe v Ovett.
Great contests and now Horse Racing has a battle of the titans. Is it just a match between Champion Kauto Star and Pretender Denman?(the tank). Will there be any bit players?
Momentum seems to be with Denman who has had a flawless season and the horse is a bigger price at 13/8 with VC Bet. This preview though is still very sweet on Kauto 5/4 with Betfred. His demolition of Monets Garden and Racing Demon at Ascot was very impressive on a track that may not have been ideal.
With these two Paul Nicholls horses dominating the market there is plenty of value in trying to find a horse to place, the rest of the field are 14/1 or bigger.

The Blue Riband of the Cheltenham Festival is the Gold Cup. This championship race for chasers has more prestige than any other National Hunt race and is the pinnacle for trainers and stables alike. To see your horse gallop up the cheltenham hill on its way to festival glory is one of sports great sights.
When analysing the race from a betting point of view their are many stats that we must take into consideration before placing our money. The age of the horse and how long it has been chasing are paramount with animals aged between 7 and 9 having won 13 out of the last 14 gold cups.
Festival form is also important, if a horse has run well at the track with 50 thousand people whooping and hollering from the stands and has handled the breakneck speed and jostling that accompanies any race it will certainly help its chances.
The 2008 race looks a cracker with the champion and favourite Kauto Star 11/8 with Sportingbet taking on his stable mate Denman who is a best priced 2/1 with Paddy Power. Whether both of them take their chance is up to trainer Paul Nicholls and the different owners of both horses.
We expect that both will run as to dissuade an owner not to try and win this most prestigious of all jump races when the horse has a winning opportunity would be nigh on impossible. If they do take each other on we would recommend you side with Kauto Star.
With two such strong contenders can we find a horse to beat either or at least a horse that may run into a place at a big price. Our Vic the David Pipe star at 50/1 with SkyBet looks to offer great value. This brilliant but ultimately frustrating beast is held in high regard by many shrewd judges and at the price is worth an ante post each way punt.
Our second value bet is Racing Demon at 66/1 with Ladbrokes trained by Henrietta Knight who previously won the Gold Cup with the brilliant chaser and 3 time winner Best Mate. If either of these can make the frame or win it will be a great payout.
Advised : Kauto Star 2 Points Win @ 11/8 with Sportingbet.
1 Point E/W Our Vic @ 50/1 with SkyBet. 1 Point E/W Racing Demon @ 66/1 with Ladbrokes.
