Keeping a spreadsheet for your Profit/Loss in poker is a very good idea Llaayyss. As regard to specific info recording is tricky.

When playing poker, my I suggest a strategy to use to run along side any personal info you may choose to record...

Use a very tried and tested Poker Bankroll Management Strategy.... Never put more than 5% of your bankroll into any one game. This will greatly eliminate the risk of you going broke (not putting all your roll on the felt at any one time), and will generally mean you won't be playing out of your depth.

As to recording, tracking any other stats. I would keep a close eye on what formats of Holdem (if that's the game of your choosing) you are successful at. For example alot of newer players find early success at 6/10 seater STT's from $2-$5. These smaller stakes wont hit your bankroll hard and lets you see the most forms (especially 10 seater) in any one game, from a Full table to Short handed (3-5 players left) right down to Heads Up (the last 2). If you are going to play a range of games, STT's, MTT's and Cash, track which ones you have most success in.
Also Edit Player Notes on ALL of your opponents. This facility is greatly under used by newer/novice players but will give you a big edge when faced with an important decision.

i used to have a very good detailed one that someone posted on the Betfair forum poker section.

haven't got it anymore i'm afraid. was a very good spreadsheet with great recording and ready produced graphs to analyse your data.

For shorthanded tables Try T6poker which is a new site running freerolls at the moment.

Personally I prefer Paradise Poker for its nice clear graphics (and fairly easy play) or Full Tilt which IMO is the nicest site to play on with all the knobs and whistles you could wish for, including an option which orients the table so that you can sit where you want. Players are noticeably better, however.

I think you just have to try fun money at a few until you find one where you are comfortable really.

With regard to tactics etc you really need to buy a book - try the Harrington on Hold'em series for tournament play, or Doyle Brunson's book.

Does it help to record the results in a spreadsheet? It is just a game of luck not statistics. Will a spreadsheet help to improve the winning rate? Confused

Poker is hugely down to skill as well as luck I'm afraid.

Recording your results can only be a benefit - you can see quickly how much you have won or lost, and, depending on your records, where you are a winning player (site or game).

I use http://www.checkyourbets.com as well as a spreadsheet. My spreadsheet is simply to keep track of where my money is and how much profit I have made, but this site keeps all my records of where I play, what game, how long for, and the profit/loss. Plus it's free which is nice.

for anyone that wants it i've just found the spreadsheet i was looking for.

You record your profit loss for each day and the rakeback each day and there are several graphs to give you details on how you are doing.

the only dissapointing thing if your more of a tournament player is that it doesnt' give anything to say how many and what tournaments you've been in etc.

I'd say this is best for cash table people. If you do a lot of cash tables drop me a PM with your email and I'll send this on.
