Greetings all. I'm new to this board although been a member of OLBG for ages now. Thought I'd jump in with a hand I had a couple of nights ago to see what you guys think of it:
Game #5079475033: Hold'em NL ($0.50/$1) - 2008/01/20 - 00:14:35 (UK)
Table "Piccolo" Seat 4 is the button.
Seat 1: Pete65 ($39 in chips)
Seat 2: marktrev ($38.75 in chips)
Seat 3: Swomble ($36.85 in chips)
Seat 4: MRGENIUS ($114.59 in chips)
Seat 5: Dazj2406 ($41.14 in chips)

Swomble: bets $3
marktrev: calls $3
----- RIVER ----- [2s 8s Th Qh][Td]
marktrev: bets $4
Swomble: raises to $8
marktrev: calls $4
Before I give you the results what are your thoughts on this hand? I hadn't been at the table very long but I think I should have had a reasonably tight image; I was playing very few hands. Had no reads on marktrev as he was a new player.
I called the flop as I had a good position and didn't think there would be any raise after me due to the 3 players there. If they had I think they would have had pretty good hands and would have probably folded. |

Theres obviously a chance he has 22 or 88 and hence have a FH
His play isnt very aggressive but then if he thinks you are a "folder" then hes probably trying to keep you in |

I gotta be honest with you mate, i think you have played this 'orribly and if you have been beaten you have gotten off lightly.
Pre flop you do what you do. K10 is a hand everyone plays and sees differently. I have no problem with the call with people to act.
After the flop you have hit top pair with a pretty impressive kicker. He bets into you, with he flush draw on board you surely have to bet back at him and ask a question, get some indication of where you are.
The turn shows an overcard, he checks you bet. He has probably put you on the spade flush and trying to push him off, so he has called you.
River and the spade hasent came so he bets at you, you have minimum raised him, trappy move, he could have a monster hand, pocket 2s or 8s, but is unwilling to put his bank roll on you having the nuts so just calls.
I cannot understand why you wouldnt bet back at him after the flop, the first time you bet at him is the first time you may be behind and its not even half the pot. This is not nice play. _________________ 2263

Hmmm....
His small opening bet on the flop suggests a straight or flush draw to me, so I'd be putting him on either two spades (one of which is Q,K or A) or 9-J or a combination of both in a bad world.
The Q turn is therefore a very scary card and I think your bet is an error. Why would he check? Has he made a straight or paired the Qs? I think you have to check here as either way you're in trouble.
His call on the turn and then bet on the river confirms this to me. No way should you be raising here, unless you're pretty certain he's bluffing and I would suggest that if he was he'd have hit you harder on the turn. _________________ In order to live, you must be willing to die - Amir Vahedi
