PLEASE READ BELOW:

NEW RULE: In order to play the OLBG S.H.O.E. Tournaments, you must first be a registered OLBG member, you are not allowed to join the tournaments until you are a registered member of OLBG. Anyone found to be listed as registered for the current tournament without having registered with OLBG first will be removed from the tournament immediately

Distribution of the password to non OLBG members is not allowed and will effect your ability to join future tournaments.

TO ALL 1ST TIME PLAYERS:

I must demand that you post your Ladbrokes Poker username on the latest OLBG S.H.O.E. thread before buying into your first tournament.

I cannot stress this enough. Failure to comply with this reasonable request will effect your ability to join future tournaments. This is the first of five threads in a series.

1-30 people = 1st-3rd share money
31-50 people = 1st-5th
51-150 people = 1st-10th

HOW DO I JOIN?:

To join in you must first have a real money Ladbrokes Poker.com account. It's very easy to set up:

Just go to http://www.Ladbrokes Poker.com/
Click the big "DOWNLOAD NOW" button
Once Downloaded, double click the "Ladbrokes.exe"
The rest is straight forward.
(Have credit/debit card details ready)

WHERE CAN I FIND THE TOURNAMENT?:

Once logged into Ladbrokes Poker.com, simply click the PRIVATE tab, then look for the table named "OLBG SHOE RD1", you will need $3.30 to enter.

CAN WE HELP?

All I would ask:

Once you buy in, post a reply on the weekly thread stating your Ladbrokes poker name.
I will collect them up, and add them to the "OLBG List of Players" thread.

It certainly should be Bonak! But Laddies still don't allow you to run private Stud Eight or Better tournaments so we are using the same substitute as we did last year Win

First off, my apologies for not replying in this thread sooner, had one busy weekend... surprisingly didn't involve clubbing. (Makes a change)

I've decided to go with the same structure as last years competition so as you can see there will be 4 tournaments:

OLBG S.H.O.E. Tournament 19/03/2008 Round 1 (Seven Card Stud )

OLBG S.H.O.E. Tournament 26/03/2008 Round 2 (Fixed Limit Hold'em)

OLBG S.H.O.E. Tournament 02/04/2008 Round 3 (Omaha Hi Pot Limit)

OLBG S.H.O.E. Tournament 09/04/2008 Round 4 (Omaha Hi Lo)

Last year I scored the series using the number of players in each round to set the points with bonus points for a top 3 finish. So if 10 players enter then the points would be as follows:

1st - 10 points + 3 bonus = 13
2nd - 9 points + 2 bonus = 11
3rd - 8 points + 1 bonus = 9
4th - 7 points
5th - 6 points
...
9th - 2 points
10th - 1 point

The table is now setup and I have sent a PM to Woody with the four tournament passwords (as a small side game I'll play the first person to give me the link between the passwords aka why I chose them in a $10 heads up match of their choice.)

Good luck all and I hope this series will get some people trying out different variations of poker that they are unfamiliar/new to.

History of 7 Card Stud
Stud poker first became popular during the American civil war in the mid 19th century and reached a new level of acceptance later on at the turn of the 20th century when 7 card stud was introduced. 7 card stud remained the most popular form of poker in America until Texas Hold'em took over in the 1970's; despite this decline, it is still among the most popular poker variants played today.

Understanding 7 Card Stud
7 Card Stud is a very skill and discipline intensive variant of poker; you must have the discipline to play the right cards on 3rd street and the skill to recognise how your hand is faring compared to your opponents as the betting rounds progress.

Your cards are revealed to you in small increments over 5 betting rounds, it is a game of uncertainty that relies heavily on your ability to read your own hand and your opponents hand too. In Texas Hold'em, you have seen 71% of your hand after only 1 betting round; in 7 card stud you have seen 71% of your hand after 3 rounds of betting; with less information to work with per round of betting, observational skills play a more important role than in other forms of poker.

Each player receives seven unique cards making it harder to judge the relative strength of your hand. With such uncertainty, being able to memorise your opponents upcards is a huge asset in 7 card stud and can be used to gain a serious advantage over the novice opponents you are likely to meet at the lower limit tables.

Position does not play as important a role in 7 card stud because the first player to act on each round of betting is'nt predetermined and can change from street to street.

7 Card Stud Tips
Make notes on which cards have already been dealt, 7 Card Stud is a game of live cards, you must know this in order to calculate how much they effect your chances of winning the hand.

Be choosy about the hands you play on 3rd street, you have seen less than 43% of your hand at this point; playing selectively here will stand you in good stead for later betting rounds.

The next major decision comes on 5th street, where the betting limits double; if you call on 5th street it's usually correct to call until the end of the hand, so make sure it's with a set of cards that you're prepared to go to the river with. Be prepared to fold a lot of hands on 5th street that had a lot of potential on 3rd street but did'nt work out.

If you make a big pair on 3rd street, play aggressively in order to reduce the field and thereby maximise the chances of you holding the winning hand on 7th street.

Don't scare off your opponents if you have a good draw, you need them to build the pot large enough to make drawing a profitable play.

If you have a monster hand, consider raising later rather than earlier; your opponents are more likely to pay you off if they are already heavily involved on 5th street.

If you can't beat what you can see in your opponents upcards, fold unless you have a strong draw.

When you are'nt in the hand, use that time sensibly by looking for patterns in your opponents betting habits.

Make sure to read up on the other variations and get the practise in!!!

tut tut Mr Woody, since they werent made public until after the answer had been given.. obviously too easy I'll make this the new bonus game and void the previous one.

Prize is as above with the winner getting to play mein a heads up tournament of the winners choice, I'll play any variation at any limit for $10.

The winner will be the person who can get closest to the correct holding for player A's hand including the suits for the following hand.

Blinds 20,000/40,000

Player A calls 20,000
Player B checks

Flop: 9c 5c 7h

Player B bets 60,000
Player A check raises to 150,000
Player B calls

Turn: 5d

Player A bets 300,000
Player B moves all in

Player A quickly calls.
Player B shows Js9h and loses when the river shows a 3c.

What is player A's cards??

(This was the final hand of a recent UK poker tournament with a buy in of £1000)
