Hi all,
Was just looking for your opinions/advice...
Sat down to a wee 6 seater after tea tonight, daughter away to swimming and wanted to chill out. Was playing a couple of tables and checking my facebook so admittedly was taking longer than usual to make my move.
However, one guy (DBHOY97) started giving me verbals, which i ignored then he said and I quote
'is your dad still riding you'
I told him to shut up or Id report it, but he just continued (and also cracked my rr allin preflop wie AA with a call with 8 10 off ) so i reported him. The girl at laddies was very nice and said she would sort it and ban his chat...
Wot would you guys do? Report or turn the chat off?
Regards

Honest...I very much enjoy a good banter at the table. But these people who do take it this far are just (curse words). Just gotta try and ignore these folk.
As for reporting them, If it was an easy thing to do and a punishment was given to him then go for it. Probably be easier to hunt him down and (evil ting).I do a teriffic Nicky Santoro imperession if you are interested mate
Water off a ducks back at the end of the day.
Edited this incase the mods took offence _________________ 2263

Well I've been called every name under the sun and I'm completely numb to it, they would have to try a hell of a lot harder to get me on tilt, that's for sure.
The best way I've found with dealing with it is to agree with the insultor, so my response would be something like "daddy has just gone to get some more ky jelly, thanks for your patience" or "no, but I'm open to offers honeybuns" or "actually I was raised by wolves, woof". This totally belittles any attempt to get you on tilt and I'm 95% certain that's all he's trying to do here, because of your slowplay. If he continues with the insults, continue with the witty/silly remarks until the rest of the table is rooting for you and gunning for the other guys chips; but make sure not to cross the line, no swearing, no insulting him, focus on turning his insults into a joke. You can really get creative with this concept!
You could choose to sound insulted with a look to getting his chat banned, but the only reason I'd consider doing this is if I was likely to play him/her regularly enough for the chat banning issue to wind him up and hopefully put him/her on tilt whenever they sat down to play with me. That aside, I can't see any real benefit to have their chat banned, unless you feel it could potentially effect your play. I'd always go for getting his chat banned if I was likely to be effected by the insults, rather than turning my chat off, because I love reading the chat and hopefully getting an insight into what type of players I'm playing.
Either of these options are fine, the key points are not to be abusive yourself and certainly not let it effect your play, those are my priorities.
I'm gonna move this thread to the online poker forum if I may, I'm a stickller about keeping the Poker Nights forum tidy! _________________ Don't worry, we've got Neil Warnock! |

Thanks for the input, I think I was just a bit wound up yesterday. I too like banter, but cant stand it when its really offensive...
At first I was in too minds wether to report him and just ignored it, but he went on & on and so I was really adult about it and used as much time as poss to make my move each hand!
It wound him up, he got more personal then called my allin when I had AA and he had 10 8 off and turned trips
So I picked up the phone and before I knew what was happening I turned supergrass
I remember when laddies forum was turned into a slaggin match that got really personal its not big n its not clever
Anyhow - take it easy on me 2nite cos I might
ps - soz jww - had poker nights on bookmark and only have navigated through the rest of the forum

There does seem to be a small but vocal minority who play poker more for the opportunity to abuse others than for poker.
In particular there are a LOT of Americans who, as soon as they lose a hand start with the "ya homo" type abuse. You can really have a great deal of fun with these loonies by just playing up to it.
Second major type is the guy (they always seem to be guys) who just has to criticise others play in abusive terms (even when he hasn't been in the pot). I find that asking these guys how come a pro is playing on a $1 table normally works quite well (certainly gets everyone else on your side).
The real thing to remember, however, is don't get mad get even - you were just unlucky Burr. (I think you should have told him you were slow as you were multitabling and in the HU of a $50 tourney - give him reason to fear you).
Having said all that 95% of players are courteous and polite so don't let these losers put you off, be courteous and others respect you for it.

You often get people going zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz if you, like me, are a little slow.
I had this the other night when someone was doing it to several of the other players and I said to him , "hey, I think your z key's stuck m8".
Someone else very quickly said "that's coz he's been watching too much porn on his laptop".
Lots of lols and he stopped immediately. _________________ In order to live, you must be willing to die - Amir Vahedi

Banter at the tables is fine, and while I don't personally like abuse as long as it's not too bad I just ignore it. But I have reported players a couple of times when they are totally offensive. Not because it affects me in any way, but because I don't believe they should get away with it.
I wouldn't have reported someone for the one quote the OP posted, it depends what the rest of the abuse was like. |
