Football Idol Challenge:
1. The Challenge is to make £10000 profit from a starting bank of £200 within the month
2. The duration of the challenge and competition will start at 0000 hours, 1st of the Month and end at 2359 hours on the last day of the month.
3. Unsettled bets at the end of the competition will not count towards your final balance.
4. The first to make £10000 profit takes the title of Football Idol winner. i.e. have a bank balance of £10200.
5. Anyone who makes £10000 profit wins the challenge.
6. If you lose your £200 inital bank, you are out of the competition.
7. There are no top ups of the competitor's bank.
8. Competitors must make 5% of £200 (£10) by the end of the competition to be considered in the final ranking.
9. The Football Idol winner will be placed first in the competition as long as the final balance in his/her bank is equal or more than £10200 at the end of the Competition.
10. Competitors who have a profit of at least £10 will be ranked according to their final balance.
11. If no competitor have made a profit of £10000, the Football Idol will be the competitor with the biggest bank balance at the end of the competition.
12. This competition is for fun and is non-profit, keeping within the nature of the forum. There are no prizes.
13. You will need to add up your losses or profit of your bets yourself after each day and publish it. Let's keep it clean and simple.. Nobody is going to check if there are cheats etc... it's a fun challenge and you risk losing your own respectability in this forum if someone notices any foul play.
14. You do not need to pay a fee or mirror your bets to take part in the challenge and competition.

Game play:

1. We use only 1 bookmaker, Bet365, to tie things up with the tipping competition and maintain consistency. You must use Bet365 odds.
2. Only football bets please!
3. You can use any footie bet/market/book available at Bet365, and can play singles, doubles, accs whatever... even hedge your bets if you wish.. as long as it can be done at Bet365, it's allowed (i.e.just like in real life).
4. Please use the exact odds available at the time of your bet.
5. There is no minimum or max stake in a day etc... You make up your own plans/rules regarding your stake. But play fair.. Very high stakes for some accs are not accepted by bookmakers... the same for some singles markets. Use reasonable amounts that will be accepted by Bet365. We want to make this challenge as realistic as possible!

Posting rules:

1. Each competitor is allocated his/her own (single) competition thread for the entire month. Competitors are expected to post their selections in their own thread.
2. Please name your thread as:
"your username": Football Idol (March)
where you replace "your username" with your own username.
3. Please use the following format for your betting posts:

a) declare the current bank.
b) declare any unsettled bets.
c) assign reference to bet.
d) state bet.
i) state date of match (if applicable)
ii) state selection
iii) state odds
iiii) state stake
e) declare the amount left in the bank after stating all your selections. This is to ensure you do not bet more than you have.

So here's an fictional example:

--------------------------------------
Current Bank: £200

unsettled bets: 10, 11.

bet 15:
Single
1 March, Arsenal, 1.7,
£50

bet 16:
Trixie
1 March, Arsenal, 1.7
2 March, Villareal, 1.5
2 March, Albetece, 1.9
£25 per double, £10 on the treble

New Bank: £65

--------------------------------------

4. Please don't edit selections so that everyone can see that it is legitimate in terms of the date/time of the post.
5. Please avoid using your thread to explain individual tips. You can use the football forum for that.
6. Do not post in any other competitor's competition thread! Keep banter to a seperate thread/forum.

Updating your balance

1. There's no need to update losses as your current bank shows the amount you have left to bet.
2. You do not have to update your winnings immediately after every bet, though it would be preferable to post your winnings at the end of the day.
3. If you can't post your winnings at the end of the day (i.e. those with limited Internet connection), you must post them before the next time you make a bet.
4. Your current bank balance at the start of post containing a new bet must be updated with your winnings (mandatory). Failure to do so will limit the size of your stake to the amount declared in the current bank.

5. Update your winnings in the following manner:
i) State the current bank balance (without winnings)
ii) State the bet reference number
iii) State the total returns (i.e. profit + original stake)
iv) State the original time of winnings (this will clarify the competitor who reaches £10000 first in the case of a close call).
v) State the new bank balance.

An example is given below... here you can see that bet references 12 and 13 did not win or are unsettled.

-------------------------------------------------
Current bank: £200

Bet 11: Total returns = £350 (2nd March, 1745 hrs)
Bet 14: Total returns = 50 (2nd March, 2145 hrs)

New bank: £600

--------------------------------------------------

6. The provisional leaderboard will be only be updated with your declared current balance.

Hi Lucky Blue,

please read the rules again.
In particular, you have to state the stake, and you have to start your own football idol thread.

thanks

Hey the ayemeister!

Is there any chance of this comp now evolving?

At the moment people have to quote Bet365 odds. Think it would be cool if we/you/us encouraged people to take the best prices and seek out value. Ie use valuechacker and quote price & bookmakers

Just a thought.

Sam

For example. Zipsters March Thread

Quote:
Coca-Cola League Championship
Sheff Utd v Crewe @ 1.28

best price is from BlueSq @ 1.36

a big difference IMO. all adds up when chasing the £10k dream!

I would like to but there's no way i can verify if the odds come from all over the world... i.e. peeps would then start quoting Betfair and there's no way i can verify those odds etc. That's why we decided to stick to just the one bookie to make it "fair" for everyone.

Could we not just knock out the exchanges, and rely on peoples honesty?

If not, dont worry its still a lot of fun! It will just take me longer to get there Wink

I can't speak for everyone ("relying on peeps honesty").... since there's a prize involved, and it's open to all members, i think it's better in it's current form... of course, if there's no prize, i guess it would be an easier decision.

One off for September 2006... you start with £100, person with most profit at the end of the month wins the prize. If no one has any profit, no one wins. You can start anytime during the month... so if you start early, make sure you're still in it at the end of the month to prevent someone with only £1 profit from winning the thing. lol!
