One thing I would rule out completely is property anywhere (unless it's paying off your own mortgage). All the reports you see are from parties that have a vested interest in propping up the property markets (Banks, Building Societies, Estate Agents etc). Most wll now admit that prices are not going to rise this year, but they still can't bring themselves to say that they will fall (and they'll fall a fair bit over the next two or three years).

If you look back at their reports just a few months ago, they would be talking of how much property has risen each month and how it was going to continue through 2008. Recently they have published three month figures as that was the only way they could show a rise, and now they have to talk of prices year on year to make us think that prices are still going up.

The reality is that prices are falling, and it's going to get much worse (the Credit Crunch will be hitting much harder soon). You just have to look at markets in America, Spain, Ireland etc, where the vested interests said last year exactly the same as ours are now. Take a look at the reports from the Investment Banks as well (UBS just published billions of dollars of losses from Sub Prime) and another bank (Merrill I think) is due to report next week. This time next year you'll be hearing of exactly the samefrom the UK, but our buzz words will be Buy To Let & Self Cert (look what's happening at Paragon, a buy to let mortgage company).

I'm not going to offer any advice as to what I would do with £100,000 other than to say make sure you stick to markets you fully understand
