A few years back I used to spend most my weekends in the pub watching football (when I wasnt in the bookies). To spice the games up a little me and my mates used to have a bet on the number of corners in the games. To start with I just used to treat this as a bit of fun - a coin flip bet - surely there is no reason why one match should create more corners than the next? We just used to guess more or less than the spread which was normally 11 or 12 corners.
A few weeks passed and I noticed how few corners ther were in games involving Celtic or Rangers. They both used to play down the centre of the park and whenever they looked to be going down the flanks they would cut back in - frustrating stuff when you have backed corners!! When the next old firm game came around I decided to take advantage of what I had noticed and had a big bet on under 12 corners. The match finished with just 2 corners!!!!
These days I dont get the chance to watch much football but a mate of mine is still at it - still betting on corners. He thinks hes spotted a winning opportunity. All season he has been backing corners in matches involving Charlton - evidently there has been a procession of corners at the valley this year - 16 and 19 in recent games - I havent been able to check the stats out but my mate has won so much cash that he now travels some distance to watch Charlton and count the corners!!
I have another mate who has a season ticket at the Valley and he says this is no new trend - he has noticed lots of corners for a while. It seems as though Alan Curbishley has his players attacking the flanks and creating lots of corners.
If anyone is interested Charlton take on Crystal Palace tonight in the League Cup and Bet 365 are offering EVS over 11 corners. |

Normally the bookies price it up around even money over or under 11 corners with exactly 11 corners around 6 or 7 to 1
For example tonight in the Charlton vs Palace - Bet 365 have priced it up as follows
Under 11 corners - EVENS
Over 11 corners - EVENS
Exaclty eleven corners - 15/2
What the bookies hope is that lots of people back more or less than 11 corners and on the occassions when there are exaclty 11 they clean up.
The quote of 11 rarely varies from match to match - but as you rightly said teams do play differently.
I'm certainly going to keep a close eye on Charlton matches from now on and Man Utd/Arsenal - any others ??? |

Interesting thread
Spread Betting is where the money is on this. Sporting Index typically offer 3 markets
Total Corners - obvious
And the more volatile
Cross Corners -number of corners for team 1 x number for team 2
Multi Corners - number of corners in the first half multiplied by the number of corners in the second |

of course TBone.. try sporting life (www.sportinglife.com). Go to any match and check match day live archive. I use that all the time. Gives you other stuff as well such as shots on target, shots attempted etc. Though i always notice that the opta stats calculate shots on target and shots attempted differently... but corners should be the same though! |

AH, thanks. I mostly use soccerstats.com and betdevil.com (who unfortunately just turned into a subscription service for all but the most basic stats ).

no problem TBone.. glad i can help. Anyway, to the interested closet charlton punters (couldn't see where you guys suddenly appear from lol!), so far every charlton home match has more than 11 corners (total), with the exception of the charlton vs pompey (exactly 11 corners).
Good luck to all you corner punters! |

thanks again aye. of course I have a popup blocker! it's the intelligent kind which comes with Firefox though which only blocks unrequested popups, so no worries
just trying to appear tech savvy here.
anyway, do I need to connect to the internet before doing any of what you described?
