off to the fabulous Quail Hollow this week... cracking course and a very tough test so I'm looking more at some of the bigger names this week after avoiding them mainly for the most of the season so far
the top 5 in the betting are the pick for me...
jim FURYK won't set any pulses racing but he is starting to show signs of getting close to a win... 3 top5s this yr and 4th couple of wks ago... decent accuracy off the tee at over 70% is vital here as it's extremely tough if you are wayward... 20/1 is tempting indeed and I can see him being definite top 3 - he was 2nd in 2005 and won the year later
adam SCOTT won last wk by holing a long putt - he needed that as the demons would have started playing in his mind if he had blown that lead... he is class but needs to win more as he has the ability but doubts over his mental strength -
he's 16/1 the same as VJ who is near a win and has a superb record here with 4 top 10s in 5 yrs and will probably be thereabouts but I expect MICKELSON to pip them both...10/1 isn't massive but is reasonable for a player of his ability who will win soon if he can get his game back on song
geoff OGILVY is the 5th of the big five, and another class player who will relish the tricky conditions and tight, long course... decent value if he can recapture his superb form of 2 months ago
I think these guys will dominate this week... probably FURYK and MICKELSON for me for the title...
at longer odds, anthony KIM appeals @ 50/1 due to recent good form and 5th last yr here, and andres ROMERO @ 59 on Betfair will get some of my money as he is one of my picks of the season and has already won.. has loads of ability and is cracking value for such a quality player
other outsiders coul dbe players I have backed in previous weeks regularly..eg sutherland, bryant (who i tipped to win 2 wks ago, missed cut then came top 3 last wk!) etc
my top 3 will be furyk, micko and probably romero with scott and kim filling the places
good luck all |

ps big 6 v the field > Betfair have the big 6 at 2.62... I don't usually back a few against 140 but this looks decent this week as the big 6 are scott / micko / furyk / ogilvy / singh / cink
afterlast wk's success with pettersson, I might dabble in the top RoW market > ROMERO is 8/1 generally with 1/4 odds for top 3... seems a decent shout at 2/1 for a top 3 as main competitors are VJ and an out of form Sabba and Ames |

Gecko6 well said!
I also think Scott and Singh are great bets this week, and also like Kim as an outsider!!
If you ever venture to Spain, feel free to pop into my bar and the 1st pint is on me!!!! _________________ Living the Dream! |

hi all
as gecko said it is a tough course this week and it is up to major standard, you would think that this course would suit long hitters more so as it is a long course but driving accuracy is important as it is also a thinking mans course judging by what most of the top golfers are saying about the course. the words most of them are using is ` you gotta be smart around here '. i am going to go with some previous course form as well as some current form for my selections,,,
k .sutherland 81 Bet365
n.watney 81 Bet365
b.quigley 176 Bet365
j.senden 101 totalsport
k.sutherland is having a very good year so far with 6 top 25 finishes so far out of 10 events with 3 top 10 finishes in there too. and he has 3 top 25 finishes in this tournament in the last 4 years. he finished t-7th last week and hopefully he can sneak a place at least this week.
n.watney has 4 top 25 finishes this year out of 10 events with 1 top 10.he also has finished in the top 25 of this tournament the last 3 years.it has also been said [pga tour website] that this course would be similiar to the masters and the shell houston open ,so with watney having a t-11th at the masters you would think this course would suit him.
b.quigley wouldn`t usually be my type of player as he usually chokes if he gets on a leaderboard but his course form in this tournament the last 3 years is very good with a 10-14-16 finishes, and at those odds he might be worth a look.
j.senden is a player i have been doing recently so i have to follow him here again,he has finished 10-22 the last 2 years here so he has some course form and out of 10 events this year he has 5 top 25 finishes with a 2nd place in there as well.decent odds for him i think.
all bets e.w
best of luck to all |

i got rightly sickened yesterday
i did perm accums on my golf selections involving group and match betting in both tournaments.i stuck in r.osullivan[ 1/1 ] to win the snooker as a banker and at the last moment i stuck in c.hoffman [2/5 ] to make the cut.he was a early starter yesterday[ i wish he stayed in bed ] he shot a terrible +5, so my golf interest is over at the 1st hurdle.he would need to shoot a -4 or -5 round to have any chance of making cut. highly unlikely. thats what i get for been greedy best of luck to everyone else
ps,,p.lawrie is doing well[ -6] in spain but,as gecko said garrido is -15 .
[where did he come from ] garrido has been in the wilderness for a number of years and i would expect the field to close up on him over the weekend.p.lawrie hopefully can get placed and g.castano is struggling to make the cut atm. |

hi gecko
i would be surprised if garrido hung on,he has made the leaderboard on a few occasions the last few years and if i remember right ,has buckled each time.still its a decent lead at halfway,as i speak he is 5 clear of 2nd and 7 clear of 3rd. but as we all know in golf ,that can change dramatically in 1 round of golf let alone 2.at this stage hoping for p.lawrie but could see the spanish trio of jimenez, lara and rodiles making a charge over the weekend.rodiles [-7] atm, promised a lot a few years back and was spains next big hope but has been quite the last couple of years.i am sure he won a european tournament 3 or 4 years back. so i think i will keep a eye on him over the weekend as well as a.noren[-6] for Each Way purposes. |

Sorry lads never posted my selection earlier this week, I went for Donald, that didn't last too long.
I think a good bet for the final days play is VJ at 25's, one of those players that seems to love coming from behind on the final day. Paddy Power offering 1/3 for in running places 1 and 2. I think this is well worth a punt.
Good luck to all on last day. |
