Tiger Woods will obviously be favorite but i don't think Turnberry will suit him. At 5/2 he is worth a few quid but I'm going with the following -
Davis Love III strolled through the qualifying rounds on ten under for two rounds and has huge Open experience playing for the 23rd time and made the cut at Turnberry last time. 200/1 is a humongous price available at Betfair!
Retief Goosen has made the cut ten out his last ten Open attempts finishing top 10 four times. Retief has won twice this year in the Transitions Championship and The Africa Open and is on 60/1. The African Open was in January so you can probably discount that but his win in the U.S. came in March and his performance at the BMW International Open showed he is capable of challenging in the Open.
Rory McIlroy is a wonderful golfer who in my opinion will take his first major. This will be his second Open Championship making the cut first time round. After finishing tenth in the U.S. Open he will surely be in contention. 20/1 is going fast!

| is qualifying even over yet? the odds should change a fair bit and i would suggest that 20/1 on mcilroy is terrible. |

Only local qualification and U.S. Tour qualification via the AT&T are left.
Players can qualify via a special U.S. money list or by finishing the leading player from among the top five at AT&T. In any case, it’s only for those not already eligible.
Ricky Barnes is second on the special money list of six tournaments – The Players Championship, Memorial, St. Jude Classic, U.S. Open, Travelers Championship and AT&T National. He opened with a 70.
Paul Goydos, the leader of that money list, opened with a 73 and was in danger of missing the cut. Also in the chase are John Mallinger (70), Matt Bettencourt (70) and Kevin Na (71).
Bryce Molder is $20,000 behind Barnes, and it helped that he opened with a 64.
BTW -
20/1 on McIlroy is with Paddy Power. You can get 25/1 elsewhere. |

I'll consider the length of time before a tournament is about to begin before posting golf info in future. However, since the post is up has anyone any opinion on my picks? |

personally i wouldn't back retief and mcilroy at those prices. they seem rather short to me. i don't know who I will be backing as i havn't studied it yet and my knowledge of links is pretty bad so i will be most likely following peoples' tips on here. i think the european players will do well here- maybe ross fisher or poulter but i reckon the odds will be pretty bad on them too. jim furyk maybe- his open history is pretty good and he has the game and temprament to win.
but to be honest, tiger will probably win, especially if he is playing like he is this week. |

Is Tiger playing again before the Open?
McIlroy won all around him as an amateur on Irish links courses. He won in Dubai aged 19. He's still in the top 20 in the world rankings since that win. I think he'll do well at the Open.

| Nope this is Tiger's last event before the Open. I agree with kloot couldn't have Goosen or Mcilroy at all, I wouldn't back Mcilroy at triple the price he is now, even though this could well be his best chance of winning a Major, but he won't be winning one yet in my opinion. He won in Dubai but struggled badly to win that after leading by 6 or 7, and as The rabbit has pointed out lately he's been very disappointing with his final rounds or over the weekend when it matters. Goosen is not the same player in the mix anymore, and you only have to look at his effort last week to see that. |
