Daniela Hantuchova is priced at 15/2 with Stan James to lift the title, with half the odds for a final place.
Now I don't normally bet on the erratic Slovakian, but with the possible exception of the injury prone Dominika Cibulkova, I can't really see anyone else troubling her.
Anyone got any thoughts on this? _________________ .

Good luck with that one
It's one where she really should be making the final but her record over the last 12 months or so wouldn't exactly fill you with confidence and no matter the opposition Dani can always find a way to lose.
Going to be interesting to see how Jankovic does, have seen reports that her journey to Mexico was far from ideal and she's also in the midst of some changes with her coaching staff and possibly her service action...As we know it doesn't take much to p**s her off so I hope the ball kids have thick skins _________________ "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."

Thanks jimny,
I decided to keep my money in my pocket rather than risk it on Dani - cue straight sets wins throughout the tournament for her now _________________ .

Not very well is the answer to that one, as the Drama Queen loses in 3 sets to Anastasija Sevastova. _________________ .

Indeed, didn't watch the match but can only imagine the torture she put the poor ball kids through....Have a feeling quite a few of them were doing high fives as she left the court
That side of the draw has really opened up for someone like Alize Cornet now _________________ "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."

Alize Cornet to bt Aleksandra Wozniak
Neither player has had a very good start to the year failing to get past the 2nd round of any tournament.
Wozniak leads the h2h 2-1 but its 1-1 on hard courts.
Cornet looked like her old self when beating Strycova and with odds of 2.2 on Betfair its worth a small bet. |

Pavlyuchenkovat to bt Hercog
Hercog did well to get to the final in Mexico but that was on clay and her record on hard courts this year is pretty poor losing in the first round of the ASB classic to Peer and in the second round of the Aussie Open to A Bondarenko.
Pavlyuchenkova on the other hand has reached 2 hard court quarter finals this year and lost in the second round of her other two tournaments (Aussie Open and Paris) to Kuznetsova and Dementieva respectively.
With Jankovic out Pavlyuchenkova should be thinking about her chances of claiming a first WTA title as her route to the final doesn't look to tough. |

Good luck with Cornet not a match I'm even remotely tempted to have a bet on as the French Miss just cannot be trusted and is as likely to get hammered as she is to record a glorious win...Impossible to read anything in to her win over Strycova who is poor especially away from Clay.
Wozniak hasn't played since Australia but there have been reports she has been training hard for this week and the tournaments ahead in Indian Wells etc. and if she is on form can see this being straight sets for the Canadian.
Have been impressed with the progress Hercog has made in the past year but Clay is definitely her favourite surface and you'd expect Pavlyuchenkova to have too much for her but any player that can take a set off Venus Williams when playing in her first tour final has to be respected... _________________ "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."

Well done Blake
Benesova to beat Sevastova...The young Latvian had a great win over Jankovic in the last round but a lot of that has to go down to poor preparation by Jankovic and she managed to let a good lead slip, now after such a huge win it is going to be tough to follow it up and if she does then fair play to her but no way could I back her at these odds...Yes Benesova is erratic to say the least and has slipped down the rankings since making the SF here last year but she's still a decent enough player at this level.
Tempted by Errani to beat Cibulkova as I have this down as a pretty even match, Cibulkova probably has the better game on these hard courts and has done well enough so far this year but when Errani wants to she can be very tough to beat as Safina found out last year...Wouldn't be surprised to see it going the distance so may have a small bet on Errani. _________________ "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."

Not a betting post as such but a fine win for a local up and coming star that I've been following.
17 year old Heather Watson on her first year on the senior scene has beaten former World number 7 Nicola Vaidisova at the Tangipahoa Tennis Classic in Louisiana in 3 sets.
Vaidisova who is just 20 was world number 7 2 years ago and has made 2 slam semi's vbut a complete loss of form has seen her drop down to 150 in the rankings.
Maybe she's getting too much loving from Radek Stepanek who I belive she's dating!
Doesn't take anything away from Heather though who will definately consider it a good win against a player who has been there in big tournaments. I just hope she can continue to push on and keep improving. |
