PostPosted: Tue Sep 25, 2007 10:06 pm    Post subject: Premier League Snooker 2007

I thought it maybe worth starting a thread to discuss the weekly Premier League matches. Win

This Thursday is O'Sullivan v Ding and Davis v White at Plymouth.

O'Sullivan and Ding have played 6 times before, Ronnie has won 3 times (10-2 World Rd 1) (10-3 Masters Final) (6-2 Masters QF) Ding has won 1 (9-6 Northern Ireland Final) and they have played twice in the Premier League and both matches have finished 3-3.

Jimmy and Davis have played 6 times in the last 5 seasons, Jimmy has won 1 (4-2 Prem 05/06) Davis has won 3 (5-3 Prem 03/04) (6-2 Prem 02/03) (5-4 LG Cup 02) and they have drawn twice (3-3 Prem 06) (3-3 Prem 04/05)

It should be two good matches, and both could go close.

I may go for O'Sullivan and Davis 4-2 win double, or both draws like last week? not decided yet

Any thoughts? Confused

I reckon Steve Davis will have it hands down, although I can never tell with O'Sullivan. IMHO Ronnie is never worth backing as his play depends on his mood, he is untouchable at the top of his game, and dreadful when he's off the tracks - and the problem lies that he is always swinging both ways

I think O'Sullivan is well worth backing especially at 11/10 in places,Ding is a good player but if Ronnie plays well tonight this could well be a thrashing.
I think the White v Davis game could go either way,White has drawn both his games so far so hopefully this game will be a draw too at 9/4.

I didn't see the matches last night, but it looks like Ding played well in the 1st 3 frames he had a 98 and a 137. Ronnie made a bit of a come back winning the next 2 frames and had a 141 the highest in the league so far, but Ding won the last to win 4-2.

Steve Davis beat Jimmy 4-2 and played pretty well it looks like, he had a 90 in the last frame.

Hi Rads

great thread - looks like you predicted 4-2 in each match and thats what happened - ok well you said 4-2 Ronnie and it was Ding

Our of interest - can you recall what the odds were for 4-2 either way and 3-3 in each match?

Davis was 3.75 to win 4-2 and the draw was also 3.0

I ended up taking Davis, and thankfully swerving Ronnie, its hard enough backing him in a "win only" match, but a match that can be drawn makes it much harder.

Back to back defeats for Ronnie makes his match next week with Davis look very interesting. "Will Ronnie bounce back" is the question we all want answered, and I think a lot of people will back him just because they dont see him losing 3 in a row. A more realistic way of looking at it could be that Ronnie's head isnt in it right now - and if thats true, then backing Davis next week could be the best route, at probably a decent price too.

As far as Hendry/Robertson goes, I'd lean towards Hendry. Robertson hasnt really got used to the shot clock yet, and despite a poor showing against Jimmy White, I'd expect Hendry to take it.

This Thursdays head to head stats

Ronnie O'Sullivan and Steve Davis have played 8 times in the past 5 seasons, O'Sullivan has won 7 (5-3 Prem 03) (9-8 Welsh Final 04) (5-1 Prem 05/06) (5-3 Prem SF 05/06) (3-1 Grand Prix 06) (4-2 Prem 06) (5-2 Prem SF 06) and there has been 1 draw (3-3 Prem 04/05)

Stephen Hendry and Neil Robertson have played 4 times Hendry has won 3 (10-7 World rd1 05) (5-1 Malta 06) (5-0 Malta 07) and Robertson has won 1 (5-3 Welsh 07)

Results so far
Davis beat White 4-2 and beat Robertson 4-2
O'Sullivan beat Higgins 5-1 lost to Hendry 4-2 and lost to Ding 4-2
Hendry beat O'Sullivan 4-2 and drew with White 3-3
Robertson lost to Davis 4-2 and drew with Higgins 3-3

Steve Davis is the form man at the moment with 2 wins from 2, and O'Sullivan has lost his last 2 matches in the Premier league, but I think O'Sullivan will bounce back this week, although he has lost a couple he has still made breaks of 68,83,98,101,124 and 141. I think he will be looking for some big wins now to get himself back up near the top of the league. Prediction Ronnie 5-1

Like betking said Robertson hasn't really got use to the shot clock yet, and Hendry has a good record against him and has a lot of experience in the Premier league Prediction Hendry 4-2

Well, pretty close with the predictions last week. Ronnie won 4-2 and Hendry won 5-1.

This week is Stephen Hendry v John Higgins & Ronnie O'Sullivan v Jimmy White

Head to Heads for this week

Hendry and Higgins have played 21 times since 1995 Hendry has won 10, Higgins has won 10, and there has been 1 draw. Higgins has won the last 4 meetings (5-2 British open 04) (6-4 Grand Prix 05) (6-2 Masters 05) (5-2 Malta 06). Hendry is top of the league with 2 wins and a draw. Higgins is bottom with 1 draw and a loss.
A very close head to head record, Hendry is playing well, Higgins needs to catch up this week. to close to call for me Prediction 3-3 Draw

Ronnie and Jimmy have played 19 times since 1998 Ronnie has won 15 and Jimmy has won 4. Ronnie has won the last 4 meetings (6-1 Masters 05) (5-1 Prem 05) (5-1 Prem 06) (7-0 Prem Final 06). Ronnie is 2nd in the league he has played 4 won 2 lost 2. Jimmy is in 5th place he has played 3 drawn 2 and lost 1.
Ronnie looked on top form at the start of the match last week against Steve Davis, and if he get off to another flyer this week Jimmy could be in trouble! Prediction Ronnie 5-1
