With so many short priced favourites in the Group stages I think it would be best to concentrate on the Handicaps on offer through sites such as Betfair who have multiple handicaps available.....

Sunday 9th September
Wales are sure their fixture with the Canadians is going to be a tough affair and it will be hard to overcome the resilliance of their opposition. So the handicap on Canada +30.5pts looks like a great place to start the afternoon, if the Welsh think it will be tough, they will probably have a bit of a cautious approach and could find it hard to score a lot of points, the price on offer here seems like a good investment for me, they are a lot better than the USA team the English faced today, and based on the performance they shown against England, it could be inside the handicap. Twice they have lost by 31 points to the Welsh, but an improved side should be a challenge for Wales here
Canada +30.5pts @ 1.91

South Africa are short priced @ 1/50 against the Samoans, but recent results may suggest that the price of 1.21 on Samoa +50.5pts looks a real steal. Samoa were beaten by the Springboks by 50pts in the Pool stages of the 2003 World Cup and were unlucky to miss out on the knockout stages with great performances against Uruguay and Georgia...
The South Africans can be pretty unpredictable at times and may struggle to break down a Samoan side which improve year by year with more players playing Internationally in bigger leagues. They could be a challenge for the South Africans and shouldn't be too humbled by a side who dropped 2 places in the World Rankings in 3 months between April and July.
Samoa +50.5pts @ 1.21

Scotland are given a 66.5 point headstart against first timers Portugal who are huge outsiders for the tournament. But such a score may not be so easy for a side who have been given a huge grant to develop into a better side, and this may show on the pitch, they did get past the Uruguayans to reach the tournament, and could prove a handful for a while here, and should be able to keep the scoring to a reasonable standard against a Scotland side who fluctuate on performances
Portugal +66.5pts @ 1.84

Namibia have qualified for their third successive World Cup and are given a very generous 58.5pt headstart over the Irish. Now for a side who have only lost in the World Cup by that more than that margin once, and only been beaten over this margin twice in their history this looks like it could be a good shout for the day especially with odds of 2.76 on offer. They have played Ireland 3 times and won 2 of them, but these 2 victories were in quick sucession back in 1991, and both teams have well and truely changed, but if the result in 2003 is anything to go by, then Namibia should just survive this one after losing that match by 57pts
Namibia +58.5pts @ 2.76

Best of luck with your selections Inatimate1

I think you are spot on with Canda's chances, Wales have been out of sorts and I they very rarely put teams to the sword,

Namibia also looks a strong option - can't see Ireland racking up the points in this one.

Scotland have had a bit of line fever recently and I think the handicapper may have been a little generous when assessing Scotland's chances.

South Africa may be the Banana skin in your selections. SA have improved a lot in recent years and certainly have the personal to put teams to the sword.
But as you say they are unpredictable and maybe (just maybe) a few big Samoan hits may break up the rhythm.

Good luck. Worries me a bit that Samoa haven't faced any serious opposition in their WC warm-ups. I don't like these mis-match games very much as it seems to depend on what the coach had for lunch and whether he goes all out for a flogging of the minnows or just a stroll in the park. I'd be happier to take on Wales. Their form is rubbish, their coach is nuts, their captain just had his face ripped open. Any victory will do here for Wales so I don't see them racking up a big one; they'll need everyone on deck for Australia next week.

cheers,
B

just posted in a different thread about the welsh being able to overcome the 28 points, so i will just post my tip. wales -28

south africa - 32 at 10/11 no prizes for guessing the boks tactics here. although the samoans are strong i can't see them competing with the strength of the boks pack. the opening games of the tournament have been useful for the contenders to give their strong side a run-out to give confidence and fluency. the only teams to make a grand meal/mess of it are england and france. follow the boks to keep pace with new zealand and austrailia.

scotland - 60 at 10/11 if the scots cannot score at least 10 tries here they may aswell go home now. the portugese have no chance at being competetive, and even getting themselves over the whitewash will be worth shouting about.

ireland - 64 the irish are the strongest of the eurpoean sides in the competition in my opinion. the handicap looks steep at first glance but to be realistic the namibians will struggle to cope with a very solid outfit.

I have picked two from two on Handicaps up to date so let's hope my run continues

Scotland -64.5 vs Portugal

Portugal are only semi pros and face a much fitter and more talented Scotland side, the Scots have named a very strong team and I expect them to win by more than 65 points comfortably

Ireland -70.5 vs Namibia

Ireland have some of the best players in the World in their team with O'Driscoll, O'Gara and and D'Arcy in the backs, and of course Paul O'Connell, Rory Best and David Wallace some big names in the pack. They face a Namibia side who are the lowest ranked team in the tournament and that lost 142-0 to Australia in the last world cup and 105-13 to South Africa in a warm up match, Ireland should win on the Handicap

Enjoy the feast of rugby on the box and COME ON WALES

It's quite wierd that the shortest priced selection was the losing choice, I thought Samoa would have been a lot closer than that but still, 3 from 4 is a decent strike rate, making it 5 from 7 in total.. I knew Canada would be a good opposition for the Welsh and they proved that for much of the game today...
Ireland really surprised me today, I thought they would have put a lot of points past Namibia, but they were stung quite hard by not doing a total job, makes the 2.76 look like it should have been a lot shorter on that performance...
A lot of support for the Africans today so well done to those who took the -32.5pt handicap on offer Win

Will be back for the Argies on Tuesday
Win

south africa - 14 to beat england does anyone need me to expand here Laughing ? no chance of the boks easing up against england and with a good work out thanks to samoa they will be sharper. england looked inept against usa and i cannot se how the handicap is only 14 points. get on.

austrailia - 10 to beat wales although the welsh have home advantage, the aussies should cover the 10 points. wales looked ok against canada when the impact players changed the game, but they had some shaky moments. if they don't play at top level for the full 80 austrailia will punish them.
