Not a lot of interest for me in this as It's all played while i'm tucked up in bed.

However i've looked at the odds and fancy value in Jacques to score 50 in the first innings at odds of 2.04 (Betfair).

He seems to be a consistant scorer with 2 half century's in the first test. In his 8 test matches for Australia he's scored 4 50's and 2 century's with only 2 games he fell short. His current average is 66.37.

Like previous Australian openers he never seems to fail to make a good start.

on the game front, no bad weather expected and i think Australia will win the test. Hopefully India put up a better fight this time though.

It is risky to oppose Australia @1.6 prematch because whoever bat first chances are there that odds may shorten to 1.4x before lunch.
So my 1st day inplay plan is:
1.Aussies bat first:
Lay 1.4x or back 1.9+
2.India bat first:
Lay 1.2x or back 1.8+
(whichever comes first in all)
Will consider back draw 4.5+ if comes on day one.
good luck.

fairfranco, you can probably get better odds than 2.04, in-running on Bet365 i think he'll start off at 2.4 minimum.

seems a reasonable strategy dip, we have seen two cases of the market having an obsession with keeping the price of the favourite really really low.

australia were never higher than 1.9x throughout the whole test, even when in poor positions (admittedly they were never in *that* much trouble).

but for me, SA's price against WI in the last test match was ridiculous. WI were evens to defend one of the highest ever 4th innings totals! Should have been closer to 1.01 if the market reflected true odds. Unfortunately I wasnt able to take advantage of this as i was away for the last two days of that test, but i hope some others profited. Win

India have a real chance of being competitive here, although i'm still slightly concerned by how undercooked they were at the MCG. Batting was a real concern although Laxman and Tendulkar showed glimpses of brilliance - which is what they will need to beat Australia here. I'll back India if 20+ on day 1 and will try to stick to dip's strategies for aus and the draw.

But I probably wont get as involved in this test as i did with the last one - it's on too late!

OLBG wise as there is only match result I would have to go with Australia win again

Australia have lost just one Test in Sydney in the last decade, and their only loss to India there was 30 years ago. If Australia win this test they would match Steve Waughs side of 1999-2001 in winning 16 successive Tests. Local reports suggest Zaheer Khan - Indias leading bowler in Melbourne - has undergone scans on a heel problem and is a doubtful starter, although Kumble did not elaborate in his pre-match media conference. He would be a massive loss for India and even if he does play this will have a big effect on him.

Just a few bits and bobs off bbc sport

india off to a great start, good areas by RP and a reasonable start from ishant sharma - 34/2, sorry FF, Jaques out for a duck. Shocked

after 6 consecutive fifties, evens was actually reasonable value for him to get another one.

11/1 for india is a bit ridiculous considering this is their SP, they are doing as well as could have been hoped without zaheer.

market observations...

as i mentioned in the last test, the draw price has seen some abnormal shifts in the first session here.

india haven't drifted more than a few ticks despite about 15 overs without a wicket - encouraging because they would have been 20's in this situation in the first test.

=====

harbhajan has managed a lot of spin, more than i've seen him achieve in recent matches in the subcontinent - india have a good chance of restricting australia to 350 here. dhoni missed a regulation stumping chance off harbhajan against ponting, who has a phenomenal record at this ground.

quite annoying to see that india hit a low of 3.05 during the day, would have obviously laid off nicely if i'd been awake! Laughing

looks a reasonably even contest if india can restrict australia to 400 or below, harbhajan should be a handful in the 2nd innings, and as australia scored so quickly, it's quite difficult to say who's on top, although aus without doubt have the momentum.
