The last 2 years have seen EastEnders come 1st in 2005 (11m viewers) and 2nd in 2006 (10.7 million).
Both years theyve had over a million more viewers than Coronation Street (9.8m in 2005 and 9.6m in 2006).
Last year EastEnders was beaten by the Vicar of Dibley (a 0.7m difference), but I dont see anything in the listings which can come close to that.
Dr Who was 2nd in 2005 (over 1 million behind EastEnders) and 5th in 2006 (over 2.5 million behind EastEnders).
Emmerdale was 6th in 2005 (6.9m) and 8th in 2006 (7.2m).
The Queens speech came 10th in 2005 (6.2m) and didnt make the top 10 in 2006.
EastEnders has been regularly clocking up good ratings, and the Christmas shows feature the revelation of the Stacey/Max affair. This storyline has been building up for a year, and make no mistake, this is THE most highly anticipated soap storyline of the year.
I was expecting 1.50 at best, so Ill certainly take 1.72!
I expect either (if not both) EastEnders shows to clock up at least 11 million viewers, which should be enough to win this market with some to spare. |

Im not sure about anyone else but the max-stacey revelation doesnt really excite me all that much. Certainly not as much as little ruby once did. _________________ Positions now available in OLBG Lottery syndicate. 28 lines in each draw dramatically increases chances of a jackpot. Isn't Christmas day the last time we see Jack and Vera on Corrie though? I think it could be a very close affair between the two _________________ Top Football Tipster June 2006

I think i have the same coversatin with the missus every year "do we have to watch the depressiving drivel on Christmas day when i want to be jolly??"
I think they should ban EAstenders and corrie on Christmas day unless they actually have a happy christmas for once.
I do watch Eastenders when i'm home but it's just not what I want as Christmas day entertainment.
Give me an old Christmas film anyday
or good old Christmas special!
anyway I'd personally say it'll be Eastenders, Corrie used to always be the top program every week on the telly but it has long since been overtaken by Eastenders. |

I'm not a soap follower, they are programmes you see bits and bobs of now and again. But even I know about Saucy Stacey and Max having a bit of a fumble here and there.
It's a good call bk, the fact the storyline has been going on for so long makes this a key factor and a very decent bet (O Money).
Anyone remember the advert the bloke who played Max was in before Enders ??? I was in a pub in London after work once when he came in with a few mates, we all looked at him and said "I know that guy" but none of us knew why. After about an hour someone eventually got it, you'll all remember it.
Christmas Day telly hasn't been he same since a new Only Fools and Horses was aired, the greatest TV programme of all time was as important as opening the presents and the turkey. _________________ Eng Prem Scorecast Champion 06/07 |

This is the top 10 rated shows for yesterday
Pos/Millions/Share/Show
1 …. 13.9 (55.3%) …. EastEnders (20:00) BBC1
2 …. 12.2 (50.0%) …. Doctor Who Christmas Special (18:45)
3 …. 11.6 (53.7%) …. EastEnders (18:15) BBC1
4 …. 10.5 (51.1%) …. Regional News and Weather (18:15)
5 …. 10.4 (51.4%) …. BBC News and Weather (18:00) BBC1
6 …. 9.8 (41.7%) …. To the Manor Born (21:30) BBC1
7 …. 9.1 (50.8%) …. Shrek 2 (16:30) BBC1
8 …. 8.9 (35.4%) …. Coronation Street (20:30) ITV
9 …. 8.3 (32.9%) …. Strictly Come Dancing (20:30) BBC1
10 … 7.1 (47.6%) …. Finding Nemo (15:00) BBC1
I said over 11 million would be enough to win, but must admit the Dr Who rating surprised me a little. But regardless it was a convincing ratings win for EastEnders here |

Didn't surprise me to be honest Betking, I must admit, I don't like Dr Who, but I did watch it to fill the space between the two eastenders, as no doubt did around 75% of the people who watched the regional news and weather between Shrek 2 and EastEnders.
I thought because of the gap which had to be filled between the two episodes, Dr Who would draw an awful lot of viewers, and it's no surprise that they finished 2nd, I thought they may have even nicked it, but it doesn't really come as a surprise that Stacey won the show in the end _________________ Top Football Tipster June 2006

bit of a weird coincidence but tonight was chatting to my sisters bf who knows jake wood thru his bird, alison. apparently hes been getting a lot of stick recently over eastenders storyline. i asked him if he could remember the advert he was in, he remembered he was the guy in the yellow pages advert, after the party. id forgotten about that one. must be 20 odd years ago now. _________________ Positions now available in OLBG Lottery syndicate. 28 lines in each draw dramatically increases chances of a jackpot.
