With all due respect to the hockey writers who annually give us their season predictions at this time of year, what do they know that we don't?

Basically we read the same thing from everyone, with a few twists and turns inserted to make it a little different from their competition. Well, it is time the fans have a voice too, therefore I will comment on my feelings about the starter games and further events in the NHL.

Team not supposed to make playoffs but does: ST.LOUIS
Team supposed to make playoffs but doesn’t: CALGARY
Cinderella story: CAROLINA
Stanley Cup: DETROIT
Top Scorer: CROSBY(130-140pts)
Top Goals: OVECHKIN(55-60g)
These are just a few of my long term predictions but with the short term, I feel there is a couple of matches I like the look of.

Firstly, Red wings have always looked devilish at home and the ducks looked a little shaky in there opener in London, with still one of the best goaltenders ever in Hasek for the wings the ducks will certainly find it difficult to score. Also at the other end, Gigure, Ducks number 1 goaltender is still out, so this favours red wings more. Very Happy

Also, my almost certain pick of opening day matches is Dallas Stars vs Colorado Avalanche. Colorado were terribly unlucky to finish one stop out of playoffs by a small margin last season, thus this year i guarentee they will take every oppurtunity to win, and a win is a win. I certainly think Dallas are a dud team of the year with Modano (dallas captain) boasting about his whatever point season he is going to have I feel positive Colorado can jump out the blocks with a win on this one.

My two picks would be Colorado Avalance on the money line and Red Wings on money line, I would consider these picks to be 80-90% certain, but then again this is sport and anything is possible.

All the best.

Hmm Colorado's hopes for this season seem to be hinged on the arrival of ryan smythe and scott hannan, i'd wait to see how these settle in b4 i stake any real money on them. Saying that the avs already have the base of a solid team and Dallas are in a rebuilding phase somewhat.

Just really Ottawa to beat Toronto convincingly. Big question marks as to how Toskala will fare without the strength of the San Jose team in front of him and Heatley Alfredsson and Spezza will give him a stiff test.
