00:05 OTT Senators @ ATL Thrashers
OTT Senators +0.0 (Money Line) @ 20/31

Going for Ottawa to win this one, probably in regulation. Since their stanley cup loss last season they have came out the blocks with 4 straight wins due mainly to great goaltending for Martin Gerber and great goal support from the top line of Heatley Spezza and Alfredsson. Altanta have had 2 losses to open there season and at times questionable goaltending from Lehtonon, despite home advantage i do not think they will get their first win of the season tonight.

00:35 MON Canadiens @ PIT Penguins
Over +6.0 (Game Totals) @ 19/25
PIT Penguins -1.5 (Puck Line) @ 31/20

Crosby plays after missing Penguins practice on Monday. Expect him and his linemate's to pepper a lot of shots they way of Montreal rookie goalie Carey Price, playing his first NHL game. Coming off a victory over Anaheim will give the Penguins belief that they should be striving for greatness, hopefully they can carry that momentum into tonight.

Also taking over 6 goals in this game given the rookie goalie involved and the loaded offense Pittsburgh possess, goals a plenty surely!

Looks good cheekyboy, totally agree with your Pittsburgh remarks and I JUST favour Ottawa to win that one, but like you said on the moneyline Wink

One of my strong picks is the OVER 5 goals on DET/CAL game.
Totals this low are rare in the NHL. We see this one eclipsing the 5 mark. It's true that a lot of recent games between these clubs have resulted in 5 goals or less, they rarely end up below 5 goals. And, three of the last five played here in Detroit have gone OVER the total. Detroit, despite their excellent defense, goes OVER the total 58% of the time vs. losing teams. Calgary is 99-60 OVER on the road with a total of 5 or less. They are also 12-3 OVER following a division game the past two seasons and15-5 OVER following a game in which they lost by one goal.

Thanks for the tip smartoss. I wouldn't have even looked at this but your excellent detailed write up made me have a little flutter.

Ottawa: 3, Atlanta:1

Montreal:3, Pittsburgh:2

I tipped against the Canadiens also, but C Price earned a win in his first NHL start. Speculation is now rife that he may be the next big franchise player after Crosby.

I've read a lot about Price, has been a standout at every level he was played but i'd guess a lot of players who make the NHL are like that, he played great for Canada in the WJC but despite this i still think it will be hard for him to hold down a number 1 spot straight away.
