Well... they showed that just a slight tilt on the roulette wheel will produce a biased result. Just 0.1 degrees of tilt according to them, and they say that most wheels are not perfectly calibrated so most wheels do have a slight tilt.
This means that the ball will tend to land at one segment of the wheel (e.g. at 9 o'clock). That's all they are proving conclusively and I do find this part very believable.

Then they try to exploit this knowledge by coming up with prediction model and device which requires the user to input the speed of the ball, and how fast the wheel is spining plus the general bias of the wheel... and then the device will tell you which number and neighbours to bet on... that's what i understood in about 4 mins of glancing thru.

The person who developed the prediction device (which is a software on a PDA) claims a realistic ROI of 20% can be achieved on a biased wheel, thus giving the punter a definite edge over the house.

All in all, it's not some paper you can read and then just go to the casino and start winning. They did not reveal anything about the prediction device's algorithm/inner workings... well, they would be stupid if they revealed such stuff for free would they?! lol!

This has been common knowledge for quite a long time. A number of professional gamblers have spent months by the roulette wheel taking samples of the numbers it comes up with, and like the findings in this paper, they too found there were numbers (or sections of numbers) that came out more regularly on biased wheels.

It's quite an interesting fact, but not very useful in the real world I reckon.

It would take months of data collection in order to be confident that you have found a biased wheel. I doubt any casino would allow a patron to gain that type of advantage over the house nowadays, so it's questionable whether you would be allowed to find a dodgy wheel. Even if you did find one, I reckon the casino would have it repaired/replaced before any meaningful amount of profit could be realised; bear in mind you would have to commit serious amounts of time to research before making a penny.

It makes sense I guess, but as you say it could take months of data entry + studying to calculate which numbers a roulette wheel is biased towards.

Roulette is luck :-/

If make the roulette ball metalic or magnetic? Could this possible using the magnetic field to control the roulette ball?

Roulette balls are usually made from plastic or ivory, neither of which can hold a magnetic field.

It's possible to switch the casinos' ball with a metallic one, but you would have to do this infront of CCTV cameras which could catch you, you would most likely have to pay off the croupier who would need to be involved in the scam too. The ball would have to be a similar weight and make a similar sound to the ivory one to make sure it goes undetected by floor staff/casino managers/ fellow casino patrons. You would also need to find a roulette wheel that did'nt have any metallic parts in the mechanism (some are made purely from plastic, but most casino standard wheels will contain metal) so it did'nt effect the scam.

Once you have all these factors sorted, all that is left to do is make the ball stop on the correct number. How you make a magnetised ball land on a specific number, or even a range of specific numbers, I do not know. The ball spins in one direction and the wheel in the other direction, I guess the best way would be to buy the exact model of roulette wheel that the casino uses and practise for 6 months to see whther you could accurately predict which range of numbers it would land upon. You would need to use the same force as the croupier used to spin both the wheel and the ball, otherwise results might not be accurate.

Once you have the ability to predict the range of numbers the ball will land on, and you have paid all the dodgy casino staff to help you execute your plan, and you have swapped the ball without anybody (who is'nt on your payroll) noticing, all you need to worry about is casino security scanning you for electrical devices and catching you.

If you were making any significant amount of money from this scam, the casino would be monitoring you very carefully, especially if you were playing everyday.

The real question is could you make enough money (after paying everyone involved off) to make it worthwhile. These sort of scams have happened in the past, but they definitely were'nt get rich quick schemes, £50,000 profit over 12 months might be considered a success, but you may be working 8 hour shifts, 5 days a week in order to make that money.

Tampering with a casino game with the intent of profiting from it is against the law, you would have to factor in the possible time spent in prison against your profit margin; I would'nt want to spend more than 12 months in prison for less than a £50,000 return.

With so many factors that could go wrong, and with such a small potential payoff, I reckon there are easier ways to make a living. Just my opinion.

For me, and i dont play that often, but tend to be fasinated by the guys with the stacks at the table and can watch for hours and get lost in it.

I tend to see, big players, hitting singles and tipping generously, then play neighbours with success for few spins, before going quiet again. Too many big hits and theres a tap on the shoulder for the member of staff and hey presto, players off for a coffee.

I have been a roulette dealer for many years and have seen gamblers trying all sorts of systims. A very big Jewesh punter used to leave the last six numbers each spin but it was not long before 35 came up twice on the trot and zero after that. The only slim chance to win something is to quit while you are ahead. I play a slow waiting game but even so its not foolproof. I write the numbers on five or six roulette tables around me and wait until a dozen or column comes up at least six times. If the dozen or column repeats for the eight times I am now losing 10 pounds. For the eight spin I play the same stake 5 pounds on the losing dozen or column.The ninth spin lose again so now I am down 20 pounds. The odds of the tenth spin producing a losing sequence again is unlikely. My bet of 20 pounds on two of the dozens or column( outlay 40 pounds) has finally come up and wins 20 pounds. So after 10 spins producing the same dozens or columns my preferance has come up. If you look at the numbers coming up it is very rare to see the same dozen or column come up ten or eleven times. As soon as I am ten pounds up I cash in and leave.
I go at least 20 times a month which makes it 200 pounds profit. If its not my day and lose 200 pounds I quit and start again. You need to be strong willed, patienant, and consider it a job.Anyone wants more information can write to me
