Alright, so I enjoy making 'systems' for betting, and have done so, fairly successfully in football.
Now, I wish to give horse racing a try. But the trouble I literally know nowt about it. Would it be possible for someone to provide me some info/link which could help me understand horse racing better? Also, how do people 'predict' the winning horse? |

You prob realise from footy betting that time is the main factor to consider, most people try a system for a week and then discard when 6 months is a more reasonable test period

qhstatistics: I do realise that mate. Its more about consistency rather than a few good innings. So a system should be good long term. While at uni, I have designed a few algorithms after analysing data. Although they have been completely different field (communications), I think similar priniciples can be applied to sports. Prediction being the end result. As long as one understands the past, they can try and predict the outcome of a future case 
OT, I have read a fair few of those. Infact, there is a thread called 'Looking at racing information card etc'. However, due to my total lack of knowledge, I'd rather discuss something from scratch, so I am hesitant to ask any questions there as it might seem irritating to regulars there. Also, most of the threads there are selections, and even though I can gather some top level info from there, I will have trouble grasping the basics.

STEP 1 - Take a look at how many horse racing tipsters appear in the Holy Grail of OLBG Tables - The Consistent Tipsters League.
STEP 2 - Then look at how many active horse racing tipsters there are on OLBG.
STEP 3 - Percentage consistent? Answer is <5% perhaps.
STEP 4 - stick with football if it works for you. |

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy analysing football, but then that is it, analysing. I don't bet for winning loads of money, I just do it for fun, looking for 'value' bets. So I am not trying to make a profit out of it, if you get my drift.
For me, its more about understanding systems than actually using them for my own monetary benefit. But I see your point about looking for consistent tipsters, and I shall do that. But the way I am trying to figure this out is how things work, rather than what their end result is...cheers for the advice btw |
