Advice wanted

Hi all!

New here, i've always betted in my local bookies, but moving abroad to Greece soon and wanted to find a good online bookmaker. My colleague at work suggested using sites that compare odds at different bookmakers, but i was wondering if it is better just to stay with one bookmaker, surely they give benefits for regular punters??? He uses search4bets.com, but he's not really a good mate and i dont know if i trust what he is saying.
Looking for some advice, please????

just get yerself a Betfair account. thats all ull ever need. theyll be best odds most of the time and u can trade out of a position. no real reason to go with a traditional bookie, Betfair will suit u down to the ground.

First, decide what you want from betting.

If you just want to back your fancy, for the extra emotional kick as you watch it in play, and you don’t mind losing 2-4% of your total stake over time, pick one bookie and stick to it.

If you believe you have the knowledge and discipline required to actually make a profit from betting (about 1-2% of your total stake over time), use betbrain, oddschecker or valuechecker to identify the bookie who offers the best odds on the bet you’ve chosen, open an acount with that bookie and get the best price available.

Bookies value new customers more highly than existing ones, just like any other business, and pitch their promotions accordingly.

It takes five minutes to open a new account, and after that just one minute to deposit cash and back your fancy, if they’re offering the best odds again.

And, as Dammo says, if you only want one bookie, Betfair isn’t a bad option, so long as you don’t back when the odds there are really bad, as they sometimes are.

If you're looking for a temporary lodger this time next year, post here again. I'll be looking for a permanent move somewhere sunny about that time, and your insider knowledge might come in handy.

I can only second what Dammo has said, Betfair is your best option. Generally better odds, more markets and the option to trade out to guarantee profit or minimize losses.

Thanks to you all for your advice - i have been testing the water for the past few weeks since i last posted, using your advice, and this is what i have found, can someone tell me if they think this is stupid;

I use a couple of odds comparison sites (uually oddsoddsodds and search4bets) to check and compare odds offered for upcoming events. I ONLY bet on the clear favourite of any event. This may mean that you only get minimal returns, but it also means you are more likely to get the returns. I have only been betting about 3 -4 months, but can assure you, the long hours spent placing the bets are paying off already...............

Your strategy of ALWAYS backing the favourite is a sure way of ensuring that you NEVER back value.

Sorry supercat , but value can still be found in favourites. As I have said before value to one might not be value to another. Value is a very over rated word..... Smile

Back EVERY favourite and you will lose long-term.

If you only back the VALUE favourites you should make a profit.

VALUE is indeed in the eye of the beholder so your view will be different to mine.

But VALUE is certainly not over-rated.

Agree Value is a wonderful thing ,
but every man and his dog use the word to justify any wager.
The word itself is banded about and used excessively . Smile

The point is that if you specifically discard any selection that is NOT a favourite, you are clearly missing out.
