PostPosted: Tue Apr 08, 2008 10:49 pm    Post subject: Betfair Laying

I placed a bet on Betfair a few weeks ago, with the intention of laying so i cannot lose which i have done. Now i am just after advice on how it works after that

I know the site doesnt allow monetary amounts but for this i feel it's needed to explain my situation

I placed 100 at 2.07 as my original bet

I have now just layed 100 at 1.26 (liability 26) so now i cannot lose, and if it comes in i make 80

I feel there maybe another chance in this market, to Lay more to back next week

So anything i Lay now will be taken from the 80 i will be in the green if the bet comes in is this right? So at 1.26 i could Lay 300 to a liability of 78?

Would that 300 then go into my Betfair balance?

Reading this back it appears to be difficult to get what i mean across

Any help would be appreciated

if you Lay again, you lower the amount of your current win (81) but increase your potential win by the amount of the Lay

ie if you go for 200 more to Lay now.. then there is a 52 potential liability, but you will be potentially winning 300, less the original 100 back, so you should be about 200 up on other results, and about 29 up on the original bet (107 less 26 from 1st Lay, less 52 from 2nd Lay)

the potential win of the Lay doesnt go into your balance - it just gives you a green on that result...once the event is closed and paid then you get the winnings (less commission remember)

hope this helps

Thanks for the reply, this is probably my first go at playing on the market, and since i have my money back i fancied another go

Ok so if i Lay 200 more now, it will put my Betfair at

28 if the bet wins, 200 if the bet loses

so obviously i would want my original bet to lose as i would win more

Then if results go my way, the back price will go higher, i could then back 200 to make my standings on that market at

£££ if the bet wins, 0 if it loses (break even)?
