Dead heat con on Betfair

I've heard we're not supposed to state figures on here (??), but i think it's necessary in this case for people to understand what im on about.

Yesterday in the 21.20 at Kempton i put £30 on Davids mark to be placed at odds of 2.14. The race ended up pretty tight, and it was a dead heat for third place with davids mark 3rd.

SO, as i understand it, i should've returned a profit of £33 (not inc. £30 stake).

I look at my account statement in disbelief to find i've actually returned a total of £2.10!!

Can someone please explain what's going on here?

half stake is lost and half stake is paid out at 2.14.
