Forum Tips and Rules

Just a few things that people might find useful. I'll add to this from time to time as necessary.

LIBEL
Please be careful not to make accusatory posts that could end up leading to littigation. In particular do not express your negative opinions as if they were fact

MANNERS
Please be courteous and respectful of other forum members and the people you are posting about. If you wouldnt ordinarily say it to someones face then you should not posting it.

NO RELIGION, POLITICS OR MONEY
No politics or religion please (including jokes) unless just about betting (next president, next pope). Please be wary of anything that may offend, bearing in mind the forum is frequentled by people from all over the world with different beliefs and humour. Also please no boasts about big bets / big wins (whether true or not).

COPYING
If you copy some text from another site and post it on the forum can you prominently give them credit for it / post a link - its only fair, and I dont want to be accused of stealing content from other sites. Also do not copy an entire article, just excerpts with the link being to get more info.

LINKS
As a rule we encourage people making links to other sites when these are useful resources and there are many examples of these posted already. However will delete self promotion or links posted by new posters so as too discourage spam.

SIGNATURES
We do allow signatures to be created but please keep them short (3 lines or less) and dont include links in them unless you have received approval to do so from a moderator.

IMAGES
Please use images on the forum very sparingly as they slow down the page load and make the forum look messy (and also their are copyright isssues with us republishing them!). If you want people to see an image then we suggest you post a link to the image on the forum rather than the image itself.

FIRST POSTS
We are now deleting any first posts that promote other sites (directly or indirectly) as a matter of policy. While in some cases this may be the wrong thing to do, 95% of the time it will work.

POSTING
While anyone can read the forums you need to be logged in to post, reply, vote etc. so we know who you are While all members can post on existing threads, you need to be a member for several days before you can create new threads. The same is true for sending PMs.

CREATING NEW TOPICS
Please do not create new topics where there is already a relevant thread on the site. In particular there is pretty much always a daily football, tennis & racing thread that can be used for many postings.
New topics that should have been posted to existing threads may be deleted

CHAT
We have a chat room (see link at top) for inrunning comments etc. Please dont use the forum for score updates, commentaries - just stick to betting discussions & use the chat room for the chat

TIDY POSTS
Please dont post all in caps, fill your post with smileys or excessive punctuation

PROMOTING YOUR SITE
As OLBG's features, services and prize money are 100% funded by advertising income we cannot allow free advertising on the forum or elsewhere on the site. If you have a site you would like to promote then please contact us first. Typically we will allow users to promote their site if we feel they have been actively contributing to the community for some time.

Some other useful tips

LOGGING IN
The forum login is separate to the tipster login. Your username and password will be the same for both but you can be logged in to one and not the other. When you login to the forum theres a box you can tick to keep you logged in permanently. Should help avoid all those guest postings

TIME
If the time of the posts looks wrong (happened to me) then click on "Profile" on the grey bar above and scroll down to edit your time zone.

PROFILE
At the top of the forum in the grey bar is a link called "Profile". Its worth everyone having a look at this and adjusting their settings. You can to have / or not to have emails when you get PMs, people reply to your posts etc. + lots of other useful customisation.
