TIPSTER TEAM KNOCKOUT CUP
Right here goes, came up with idea of having a knockout cup competition between tipster teams. I want to keep it as simple as possible, in fact you don’t have to do anything. It may encourage a bit more banter amongst teams, more individual team threads and perhaps a different approach ie more team bets, working together. Then again it might not, well see.
The fairest and easiest way to do it is by using the final November team table. This includes all teams that qualified by having and using at least 5 members in that month. Apologies if you didn’t make it for whatever reason but the vast majority of the regular teams are there. If it’s successful we can begin the comp again once the winners have been decided, so your turn may still come. This amounts to 73 teams, odd number problem straight away, so Chalie AGL who finished in 1st place will get a bye to the next round.
So 72 teams will battle it out in KO style by being matched up against one another.2nd plays 73rd, 3rd plays 72nd, 4th plays 71st and so on all the way to 37th v 38th.See below for your opponents in Round 1.December is the starting month, so we are under way already.
To win your match you simply have to total more money than your opponents, qualify by using at least 5 members. In the event of a whole team not placing any bets and finishing on £0 your opponents will win regardless of their total (otherwise a team could win the comp by finishing on £0 each round and not taking part). In the unlikely event of a tie the leading individual profit wise from each team will triumph.
When the final profit table for December is posted I will work out all the winners and the process will be repeated for Round 2. Chale AGL will begin as position 1 and will play the lowest profit winners (above the 4 exclusions – read on).64 teams to start with would have been ideal, 32 for R2, 16 for R3, 8 for QF, 4 for Semis, 2 for the final. We have 72 teams, making 36 winners, 4 teams have got to go, so the 4 lowest profit making winners in Round 1 are out. This gives us our 32 teams to carry on Round 2 in the true FA Cup knockout way.
It seems a lot more complicated than it actually is, due to the odd high number. Basically the final monthly team table will do all the work for us by creating the draw for each round. All you have to do is tip as normal, keep an eye on you opponents and work as a team to win your match and proceed to the next round. Any way to summarise things before my head explodes.
ROUND 1 - 72 TEAMS - 36 MATCHES - DECEMBER
ROUND 2 - 32 TEAMS - 16 MATCHES - JANUARY
ROUND 3 - 16 TEAMS - 8 MATCHES - FEBRUARY
ROUND 4 (QF) - 8 TEAMS – 4 MATCHES – MARCH **
ROUND 5 (SF) – 4 TEAMS – 2 MATCHES – APRIL
ROUND 6 (FINAL) – 2 TEAMS - MAY

Teams not listed above did not have sufficient qualifying members to count
As I stated before I want to keep this simple, any feedback is always appreciated but I think this is the best way to do it. Alterations will be considered if there is a next time, hopefully there will be. One thing which I would like all players to vote on in the above poll is how to end the competition. The interest for many will vanish in the first few months leaving only a handful of teams to battle it out over the remainder. An idea was to make the final in Round 4 with the 8 teams left, highest that month wins, or do the same for Round 5 , highest of the remaining 4 wins or run all the way to the final 2 in May. This way we could begin the next comp without waiting to long, I’ll leave that up to the poll results.
That’s enough I think, good luck all teams, let the battle and especially the banter commence. I’m off to do some scouting of the West End Mob for my team the Villans. _________________ Eng Prem Scorecast Champion 06/07

Best thing to do would be to wait for more people to say they are interested and start it in January.
I would be interested, not sure if the rest of the team would. _________________ Top Football Tipster June 2006

Point taken but I think this is a comp where interest will only grow as it's run.No one has to do anything different, I don't expect anyone to change the way they use the olbg tipster comp and for massive team efforts, as some use it for their serious betting. But I'm sure anyone that has read the thread will keep a sneaky eye on their opponents total as the month unfolds.
Some may play it different, get involved, some will carry on as normal, many won't even know they are in the comp but it's there and it's begun. If we get some banter and hear from some new teams then that would be fantastic. On the other hand if it becomes very quiet with no real interest then so be it.
Good luck to all of ya! _________________ Eng Prem Scorecast Champion 06/07 |

I also think it would be a fun competition and would be good to see a final in May.
Just feel sorry for 'Return of the 7' team. My team have never made a profit and then yesterday one of them made 25k on Birmingham!
Dont worry we will be skint by the end of the month! |

25k That's like going 3-0 up in the first 10 minutes Although this is the cup, anything is possible. _________________ Eng Prem Scorecast Champion 06/07 |
