I felt it was necessary to ask for some help from the many knowledgeable betting customers on here before going direct to the bookie. It’s also a phone call I could do without at this present time.
My father has recently passed away and he placed a pre season bet via a High Street Bookies Telephone account of his. It involves 1 selection from all four English divisions on the handicap list.
At this time I cannot find any paperwork, so I’m unaware of exact bet type, stake etc. I don’t know all the teams but I know it was doing quite well. To my knowledge as this bet runs to May, the balance is settled then ?
My head is up my **** at the mo so I’ll get to the point. Does this bet still stand ? Will it get honoured by the bookie ?
I will contact them in due course but I need to gather all the facts beforehand and would really appreciate any pointers at this difficult time.
Cheers

Your likely to need a 'Grant of Probate' to have access to his account, it will need to be stamped by a respected financial authority, i.e. bank / stockbroker / solicitor.
They will then grant you access to his account, provided the Grant of Probate shows that you are his next of kin.
Sorry for your loss mate. |

A few months on and thanks to everyone above
After a minor hoo ha I eventually took this bet over into my name, paid the stake and waited patiently.
Well the bet came in, mixed emotions to say the least.
To cut a long story short, there are a few different opinions on the bet return. Would really appreciate some more calculations as to what YOU make the bet return ??? I'm very much a singles bet only man and mine and theirs differs to say the least.
Need to get my facts right before making the call tommorow. Going on holiday Sun. night so no rush
THE BET:
ANTE POST HANDICAP COUPON
8 X £3.50 EW Yankee
£616 TOTAL STAKE
1. EVERTON
2. STOKE
3. PLYMOUTH
4. WALSALL
5. HUDDERSFIELD
6. GRIMSBY
7. CHESTER
Simply add the handicap points to the league points to make your total. I've done that part and double checked it. Maybe Mr Bookie hasn't ??
OUTCOME:
1. EVERTON JOINT 1ST
2. STOKE 3RD
3. PLYMOUTH JOINT 4TH *
4. WALSALL 4TH
5. Huddersfield LOSS
6. Grimsby LOSS
7. Chester LOSS
So four teams we're successful.
ODDS
1. PREMIERSHIP ALL TEAMS 15/1 PLACE 1234 1/5 ODDS
2. CHAMPS,DIV 1,DIV 2 - ALL TEAMS 18/1 PLACE 1234 1/4 ODDS
IE
EVERTON 3/1
STOKE 9/2
PLYMOUTH 9/4 (Half the odds for joint 4th - unconfirmed)
WALSALL 9/2
Now by my calculations we have an Accy,6 doubles and 4 trebles with the above odds. Everton gaining 1st place is irrelevant as they we're the only ones to do so.
Thanks in advance for any sums delivered. I will be contacting the bookies tommorow, you know how it is with head up the bleep time.
During th summer I will be setting up a thread specifically for this bet as it is now my obligation to do it each season. Some team work wouldn't go a miss _________________ Eng Prem Scorecast Champion 06/07 |

This is a very tough one to take because I don't think the Stoke & Plymouth choices can be doubled up as they were from the same division and one would influence the other etc.
In fact, going on the fact that you have 8 yankees they must be made up of the following:
PREMIER - 1 choice
CHAMPIONSHIP - 2 choices
LEAGUE ONE - 2 choices
LEAGUE TWO - 2 choices
Therefore 1x2x2x2 = 8 yankees.
I make it that you have 5 doubles and 2 trebles for calculation purposes.
Doubles should be:
Everton & Stoke = £77
Everton & Plymouth = £38.50 (it's half the stake not half the odds)
Everton & Walsall = £77
Stoke & Walsall = £105.88
Plymouth & Walsall = £52.94
Trebles should be:
Everton, Stoke & Walsall = £423.50
Everton, Plymouth & Walsall = £211.75
TOTAL WINNINGS = £986.57
Hope this makes sense. _________________ AVFC - PROUD HISTORY, BRIGHT FUTURE

If you look closely the original post was back in January - Sweet FOs didn't post on the matter again until mid May - I'd say that was getting your priorities right.
Whatever we feel life goes on and it is up to Sweet Fos to deal with his loss in his own way.
Why should the bookies benefit anyway.
If you haven't got something nice to say don't bother saying it! _________________ AVFC - PROUD HISTORY, BRIGHT FUTURE
