For those of us whose teams have nothing left to play for and whose ante post bets have gone down.... we have Euro 08 to look forward to
Normally I go for home advantage in the major tournaments with a view to laying off at the semi final stage but Im not convinced that this tactic will work this time round.
Please share your thoughts and offer some advice on the Euro 2008 winner. |

As I said in the Golden Boot threat without much research I would go for the Germans, German sides have had good success in European competitions this season and what I have seen in recent friendlys they have looked a very good side and they are quite a young side and are much changed from the World Cup in 2006. I went to watch them play Wales in the Qualifiers and they played some great stuff, they were missing a lot of players that night and they looked very good technically
Others to consider would be Spain, Romania and Croatia _________________ Read my Boxing blogs, previews of fights happening all over the World. Previews and tips on the wonderful sport of Boxing!

I think Spanish defenders have got alot better over the years, that being down to the fast attacking pace of La liga. If Spain where to pick the right 4 for the back in this tournament, with the number of hard working creative midfielders they have to pick from goals should flow freely for the likes of Torres an Villa. Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas looks scary when reading a team sheet an we all know each of them can change a game with defence spilting pass's, all also very technical, Spain can create down the wings or thru' the middle, My tip for a player to shine during this tourny would be attacking midfielder David Silva, who can play on either side. I think he'll enjoy the big stage of the Euros after a dissapointing season for everyone at Valencia.
I also like the look of Germany, good squad that works hard for each other, top players thru'out all posistions, An i believe Italy might well be the only team that will beat Spain if they meet!
Atm Spain are my favourites to win outright!
Lets hope for a cracking tourny |

How can you back Spain? They are the only country in the world who underachieve more than England! Could back Torres for top goal scorer but they will inevitably go out in the quarter finals to someon like romania!!!
For me it is hard to see past Germany, Italy and Holland. With Croatia and russia decent outside bets. _________________ "Lets have a look at what you could have won!" |

I think considering Spain has already won this competition an been runners-up before that England has underachieved more than them
You have a fair point tho, But i dont understand how you can say...

Is Holland not one of the big underachievers also?
Even holland has won this competition before, an the likes of Denmark an Greece has came outta nowhere to win it in the past, I know we say at every big international tourny 'will this be their year' relating to 'big teams that have underachieved' but surely some year it has to happen, in theory if it doesn't we're gonna be picking the same winners every year, an we all know football doesnt work like that.
Good luck with who ever your backing |

I dont think you can ever look past Italy in a major tournament. They are worthy world champions and have strength all over the pitch. Excellent goalie in Buffon, strong back four, a host of quality midfielders to choose from including Andrea Pirlo who is a class act at international level and the underrated Daniele De Rossi. The power of Luca Toni up front is a huge threat and he can be assisted by the creativity of either Alessandro Del Piero, who is on superb form at the moment, or Antonio Di Natale.
Italy are never easily beaten in an international tournament, the only way I can see them losing is on penalties. While i acknowledge they are in the group of death, they are the side the other teams fear. Negative football is a myth in Italian football at the moment. If keeping hold of the ball by using superior technique than most teams is negative then I dont know what to call the kick and chase football favoured by England, Germany and other countries. Italy play to win but also play at a different level than most sides in Europe.
If odds of 7/1 or greater are available then it has to be
Italy |

1 world cup. All that needs saying.
Up until now I've been thinking Germany all the way but looking further into I think one of the big guns will probably upset them on the day ie France or Italy.
been looking into Germany's form and despite having a load of wins in the last 2 seasons they have not played the sides of the caliubre of France or Italy. Whilst the Italians have been having friendlies against France & Spain the Germans have been taking it a little easier with matches against the host. They also failed to top their qualifying group and I think the whole 'germany have the easiest route to the final' maybe blinding us from seeing the level the Germans are actually at. _________________ "The biggest regret of my whole football career was leaving White Hart Lane in 1970.....I was heartbroken" - Jimmy Greaves. | I cant consider spain or holland im sorry.. Both have managed to loose me some amount off money by under achieving in the last 20-30 years.. For me spain are not even as strong a side as they were a few years ago.. This tournament will not take a lot off winning but Germany will be my outright bet with a small wager with the italians.. |

Germany all the way for me, so have to disagree with KanKeano here

Yes they have played friendlies against Austria and Switzerland, both away, and although not the calibre of an Italy or a France, they have done a very professional job against both, winning 3-0 and 4-0 respectively. Yes, they didn't win their group, but they were the first to qualify for the tournament, and the loss against the Czechs and the draw with Wales had more to do with the seeding issue for the finals than anything else.
Mario Gomez partnership with Miroslav Klose is beginning to look very dangerous and with Lukas Podolski probably taking a supporting midfield role for the tournament, the Germans have firepower to spare. The only slight downside to the Germans is the loss Bernd Schneider with a back injury, but apart from that the momentum for the finals is gathering and the favourable draw for the Germans has only added weight to the argument to back them in my opinion. I certainly hope so as I had a big bit of the 9 available for them last year!
Personally, I just can't see the likes of Croatia, Portugal or the Czechs stopping the Germans from their half of the draw, and I can only see Italy possibly getting the better of them in any potential final. |

I agree they are in the easiest part of the draw but thats part of my point. They haven't been pushed and won't have been stretched to the limit by any of the teams until they reach the semis/final. Whereas the others will be battle hardened in a sense.
I just believe that the likes of France and Italy are a level above Germany still at the moment and when they meet I believe they will have too much for them. _________________ "The biggest regret of my whole football career was leaving White Hart Lane in 1970.....I was heartbroken" - Jimmy Greaves. I'm on the Germany bandwagon too , for the reasons stated by many of the others above however, they won't be having any of my money on them, as it looks certain i will probably make more money backing teams through the tournament than gambling on one antepost which seems to me to be to short to put any decent money on
but don't know about you lot i have a sneaky feeling looking at the teams and likely line-ups russia might hold a bit of a surprise this year...... _________________ 3rd in Copa America Comp
