Ok its been decided that in order to keep daily threads clean of bascially worthless posts and for those good indepth tips to be given pride of place in those daily threads we want to introduce a general chat thread, well here it is. This will, we hope further the online football community. A few pointers to note below:

Yes
Any general comments, well done stories, hard luck stores, moans , groans and just general footy chat as you would have over a beer after a match with your mates.

No
Tips, selections, fighting lol

This will be pretty much mod free in term of content but please remember the basic rules.......

Quote:
Rude / Offensive / Flaming to other members (5 points)

Please be courteous and respectful of other forum members and the people you are posting about. If you wouldnt ordinarily say it to someones face then you should not posting it.

Quote:

There is some relaxation of this rule in popular jokes threads like "Cure for Depression" where in the right context these are used in "good faith"

Get the ball rolling then........ Smile

I just watched a major contender for game of the season already Laughing

Rennes 4-4 Marseille

Rennes open scoring after 5 minutes....12 minutes gone i went to get a glass of coke, arrived back Kone has made it 1-1,oh no i forgot the salt for my chips,go get it arrive back Marseille lead 2-1 thanks to Ben Arfa,15 minutes on the clock Laughing

27 minutes 3-1(Niang),Rennes pull 1 back in 50th minute,game on.......

89 minutes on clock,Marseille closing on an impressive opening day victory....wait defender inexplicably makes a hash of a clearance when ball was going wide of post, ball rebounds off the impressive keepers head,3-3,wow.

Within a minute its 4-3 Marseille, but Rennes are having none of it,go straight up other end and equalise yet again.

4-4 Crowd go absolutely mental Laughing

Great game, and have to say, chaotic ending apart i was very impressed with Marseille.Keeper Mandounda very capable,Taiwo impressive at LB(being linked to prem),M'Bami and Cheyrou in middle,Cisse and ever impressive Niang up front.

The jewel in the crown making his LOM debut Hatem Ben Arfa, put in a breathtaking performance, one that makes you wonder why Marseille was his destination when leaving Lyon, home comforts would seem a reason. But wont be long befre he is starring in a "major" league.

More of the same please Win

A lot of late goals in the French matches today, and a few results that shocked me...

Grenoble scored 2 in the last 5 minutes to beat Sochaux whilst Valenciennes, without some key players, keep up their fantastic home record from last season by beating St Etienne who are expected to be with the top few teams in the League.

Even though Bordeaux won 2-1, they made hard work against a poor traveling team and had to rely on an 80th minute goal from Cavenaghi to win. The positive from that game was a debut goal for Gourcuff who is on loan from AC Milan and has a bright future ahead of him.

First big (ish) game of the season and already huge mistakes by the ref. How Tevez didnt get a penalty after Hreidarsson had hold of his leg with BOTH hands I'll never know.

And yes, Teevz should've been sent off for grabbing his throat - but if the penalty was given that probably wouldnt have happened.

Oh, and this new "respect" thing looks like its going to be a royal pain in the backside....

This whole thing with Clattenburg being suspended looks like a sham. To me it's no coincidence that he was due to ref Manchester Utd in the Community Shield today and look what happened when he reffed them last season.

Wouldn't be surprise if he was re-instated this week. Not that I think the big clubs get their own way when they don't want a certain ref when he has been assigned to their game. Confused

GET READY FOR SOME FLYING HEADS AT EASTLANDS :unlucky:NOT ME IN QUESTION,THIS IS PASTED.

Let me start by saying that I am neither City or Spurs, but I do know a little about what is happening with Corluka due to a 'business' interest.

When Spurs first made contact, it was Shinawatra's people that agreed a fee with Spurs and told Corluka he was free to leave. They did that without Mark Hughes' knowledge or consent.

Corluka was suprised to say the least. When Hughes took over he told Corluka he was one of the mainstays in his future plan for MCFC. Nevertheless, Corluka travelled to London to meet with Spurs' people.

Hughes then found out about the deal, and basically vetoed it - which was something the Thai's people had agreed he could do with any transfer activity when he took over. That's when Corluka was summoned back to Manchester to go up to Glasgow for the Celtic friendly.

Behind the scenes a real row started between Hughes and certain elements of the board; Hughes furious that they had gone behind his back to sell Corluka to Spurs, and the board enraged that Hughes had effectively recalled him from London for the Celtic game.

Shinawatra's people told Hughes that evening that the deal was 'too good to turn down', largely due to Shinawatra's financial problems. So, immediately after the Celtic game, Corluka flew back to London to resume talks with Spurs.

When Spurs' initial offer was accepted, Corluka had no real desire to leave City. That wasn't anything against Spurs, more the vision for the future of MCFC he had been sold by Hughes and Cook. However, after meeting with Spurs and talking with Modric, Corluka was sold on Tottenham and agreed terms. He went through a two-day medical, which he passed without problem. He's been holed up in a London since early Friday morning - hence why he missed the club photo.

Spurs agreed the final details for the transfer with City yesterday morning, and Corluka put pen to paper on his player registration.

Then City's people accepted the offer from Sunderland for Stephen Ireland, and Hughes went properly mental. Twice in 48 hours he felt he was having players he wanted sold from under him. In a rage, it was Hughes who called Ireland and told him he was expected to report to the CoMS to report for the Milan game. Hughes putting him on for a couple of minutes was a big statement on his part.

Here comes the really interesting part.

Hughes last night told Cook he was through with City and wants out, the sale of Corluka and Ireland being the straw that broke the camel's back. He said if the Corluka deal went through particularly, he would be on his way out of City too.

At that point City have tried to derail the Corluka and Ireland deals.

BUT, Spurs claim to have completed the paper work for the transfer which has already been lodged with the FA and signed by someone from City with authorisation to do so. City say they agreed a sale in principle with Spurs, but that no final transfer documents had been signed.

As such Corluka, who was expecting to be paraded at White Hart Lane this afternoon, is in limbo. However, he has now set his heart on Spurs and linking up with Modric and has told City he will not return to the CoMS under any circumstances. He has been sold on Tottenham, and become frustrated with the background stuff taking place at City.

Spurs and City are maintaining their respective positions, but Spurs have basically told City that they are willing to see the issue go to court. They believe they have signed Corluka, and Corluka wants to play for them.

What a mess.

Now if Hughes had've stayed where he was......

No sympathy from me for Hughes, hes a hypocrite (Told Bentley to stay at Blackburn and honour his contract, and then quit himself).

He left a club where he was adored and full support of everyone at the club, and left to go to a team which had just sacked the manager who'd given them their best league position in years, and have an owner who doesnt have a clue about football, as well as huge personal debts.

I like Sparky, but he made the wrong decision going to Man City, and if he quits now it'll be a total joke.

But as for Corluka situation, thats ridiculous. Sounds like Spurs have him, dont see how City can say otherwise.

But how can Shinawanta (sp?) say they're selling players as they need the money, yet a couple of weeks ago were prepared to spend £25m on Ronaldinho!?!? It doesnt add up.

I love news like that. Hope its true, sounds very feasible.

So Sparky's a Red, and he also goes to a job where the previous incumbent exceeded the best expectations for that season but still gets sacked. A phrase incl the words "made, bed, lie,in & it" springs to mind.

Quote from Daily Mail:

"But as he struggles to get 800 million pounds of assets unfrozen in his native Thailand while currently facing trial on corruption charges in Bangkok, it appears he is considering cutting his losses at the City of Manchester Stadium," it said.

Just last week, Thaksin's wife, Pojaman, was sentenced to three years in prison - though she has been bailed pending appeal - while the 59-year-old himself is on trial in three other cases.

Seen as a legal milestone in Thailand, the conviction of a member of Thaksin's family could yet transpire to be almost as pivotal in the story of Manchester City.

Certainly, the current picture is a little different than it appeared when Thaksin paid in the region of £80m to buy the club from John Wardle in the early summer of 2007.

With Eriksson quickly appointed on £2.5m a year and eight players recruited from around the globe at a combined cost of more than £45m, it appeared the good times were about to roll at Eastlands.

Even then, however, things were not quite as some thought. With a portion of this summer's estimated TV revenue used to fund transfers last summer - not an unusual move in football, it must be said - most of those eight deals were set up with staggered payments.

In short, the headline figure may have topped £45m but the actual cash spent at the time was about a third of that. This summer the next batch of those instalments is due and a significant figure is involved - something that looks to be having an effect on Hughes' transfer strategy.

Having conceded privately that his squad is not equipped for a challenge on the top six, Hughes is seeking a new left back, holding midfielder, right winger and centre forward as he looks to balance up a playing roster that he found to be significantly deficient when he arrived at the City of Manchester Stadium in early June.

Hughes is not the only manager struggling to find value in an inflated market. But while City are far from flat broke, it is certainly the case that the ex-Blackburn boss is not being extravagantly bankrolled in the manner many City fans hoped he would be when the club chased Ronaldinho just a month ago.

That particular deal - totalling £22m - had been set up by City's inventive executive chairman Garry Cook in such a way that much of the capital would have come from outside the club and from the player's own backers at Nike."
