OLBG v The Bookies FUN version (season 08-09)

ok.. as mentioned on the "OLBG v The Bookies" thread last season, I thought it would be worth having another go... and see how we get on as individuals in our battle to beat the bookies...

so... anyone who wants to play please join in and post your thoughts/selections... this will be self-scoring so please NO POST EDITING at all or else those posts will be disregarded...

bank > starting with £100, you get £100 every wk for 40 wks so a bank of £4k over the season...

selections > post your own "best bets" of the week for info only > please add your reasoning to make the whole effort worthwhile and to HELP others (eg why you are picking goals, or HT win, or first scorer, or AH +0.5 etc)

bets > post your own "best single bet" of the week...confirm the amount and the odds/bookie you are taking (no changing after the selection)

summary > update your own bank with a running total > this should clearly show your bank, your latest bet & result, and your overall running total (balance)

* should be good to see if any of us can beat the bookies... or if anyone wants to bet goals every wk, or correct scores etc... hopefully there will be some cracking bets found and this will help all of us

> please create your own thread and stick to that for your selections/reasoning/results although obviously you can comment on other people's

>> please note this is purely for fun and isn't REAL money

** UPDATE **

ok..some brief rules >

- 40 wks... when there isn't a premiership weekend then you can pick internationals

- you can miss up to 3 wks but no more than that.. and you can use the extra stakes still (the £100 weekly top-up) > we don't want peoplepicking and choosing their weeks so pls try and bet every week

- no minimum bet although anyone doing 1p will be seen to be protecting their profit I guess!

-maximum of £1k per bet

>> that's it really - pls remember this is purely for fun on the threads only

** TIPSTER SUMMARY **

I'll try and post the weekly totals here so you can all easily see the performance

eg

week 7 > bank given £700

tipster > bets made 7 > bets won 5 > strike rate > profit/loss > average stake > average return > average odds per bet

good luck folks

Win

good idea gecko thank you for the initiative
Do you think that individual threads will be operative? they may be useful to check consistency of claimed profits but I do not think so in order to follow thoughts on matches and suggestions on bets.

good luck Win

hi TT.. that was what OLBG wanted so that's why..should be ok... once we get to get 40 wks, the single thread would be huge I guess Very Happy

i reckon some will fly along.. some threads will die a rapid death I guess

we shall see Wink

lets do so ! Very Happy

sorry I am somehow narrow minded:
a) it begins next week with the first Premiership round, isn't it?
b) as Premiership has only 38 weeks , would you mind rule the two other weeks for all of us.

To make clear we are playing this for fun and not for money I have casted the term "geckoins" to refer to the bank units , from the ancient english words "coins" selfevident and "gecko" meaning "great tipster". Hope you do not mind.
Market exploration shows that 1 geckoin is valued 100 tipstongs and also obviously 1 geckoin equals 1/10th of an Anthony (also called O£BG) Laughing

good luck Win

Very Happy

you do yourself a disservice TT... a geckoin will no doubt be devalued rapidly when the season starts!

re the season > yes, it starts next wk (16th aug) and there are 40 calendar wks as it finishes on 24th may

there won't be premiership games every wk so we will do internationals again probably

I think we need to have some rules on minimum stakes... also, we need a bet each week...

open to suggestions

dealing with devaluation is one of the greatest expertises of people from Rio de la Plata specially its right (west) shore Cool Anyhow I do not think you will devaluate and wish you that you grow like the euro.
Imo the original rules were useful. In example to maintain the minimum 100 geckoins bet limit.
I think it may be included that players are allowed to "pass" a little fixed number of weeks (3 for example, may be 5) if wanted. Specially interesting for those that would prefer not to bet on internationals or whatever league you choose for the "free weeks" and useful for everybody since the fact that the work was collective last year made that individual holidays do not affect the game.
Although the fact that the bank is received in pieces prevents somehow sequential doubling and other statistical stake strategies ("martingalas") some kind of upper limit good be fine (1000 geckoins or so) .

good luck Win

yeah - depending on the amount I'll try that on the main thread tt

also, think a max of £1k is reasonable... to stop people going "all-in" or anything... and perhaps a minimum to stop people trying to save a profit...not sure

1 bet a wk with possible 3 dips out is a good idea...or 3 missing wks but can make up those 3 bets to have a total of 40 over the season ?

Great idea gecko, you can count me in. Hopefully this year I can make much more of a contriubtion; I hold my hands up for last year for being guilty of voting more so than contributing, as did others. Embarassed

This year I'm going to participate fully, no matter how bad my selections may be. Laughing
