I'm a selective punter (only on football). I hope to strike when as English saying will the iron is hot. On the average I'm doing quite well around 50 to 100 in a week sometime up sometime down average out slightly positive.
As most of time I seldom comment but when I'm confident of a bet then I'll post my comment. |

the arsenal Asian Handicap to beat reading was just too good a bet to not plunder which took me to the grand mark on monday, as i was flicking channels i noticed coventry had had mifsud sent off so took a certain bookie for another k offering evens on baggies AH -0.75 at half time. good week gets better when i spot ronnie osullivan at 8/11 with said bookie to beat robertson, and thanks to the confidence boost by the olbg snooker tipsters who have been spot on for the majority re-invested my arsenal winnings. not all good news as i lost a tenth of baggies proceeds on an ill advised treble on leeds, hartlepool and carlisle playing suposed inferior teams in the johnstones paint trophy. needless to say every one failed to win. lesson learnt!! given this has been a pretty quiet week it is surprising how much money gets recycled, staked and turned over. _________________ top rugby tipster april 2007 |

| purely online betting sports and events was at an average of £64. Does this figure sound about right? |
They also state that only 6% of the population bet online. They obviously didn't include many OLBGers in their survey as I am sure our figure will be much higher, both for % of online betting and weekly turnover.

Shameful if its true. The world's gone mad |

I think it depends how you define stakes
If I have £50 and bet £5 unit stakes
If I use it for sports betting with £5 stakes then I can maybe make 20 bets per day so my "stake" would be maybe £100/day, £700/week
If I go to a casino and play £5 hands of blackjack, assuming I dont lose the lot, then I can keep playing 2 hands per minute maybe for an hour. Thats a "stake" of £600 per day, £4200 per week
I guess with slots people can recycle quicker and possibly have a longer play session so if they have a similar £5 unit stake they can maybe do 8 per minute for 2 hours say. Thats £4800 per day or £33,600 per month, although as slots is a very unfair game they would no doubt run out of their £50. |

I dont get involved with slot machines etc, used to see my dad put mums housekeeping in them often enough.I enjoy an on-line bet but dont go daft with the stakes.I have also learnt quite a lot from using olbg and taking advice that has been given.
Some weeks could be as low as a tenner, depending on the sport, but i tend not to go over £40-£50 a week,if the wifes reading this i meant £5-£10 a week. _________________ M.C.F.C. BORN AND BRED |

After reading the posts here I consulted my excell spreadsheet and noticed that I stake about $25-30 a day on weekends and I get like 4/5 wins or maybe even 5/5.
But on weekdays except when it's a champions league weekday I loose about $30-35. Given the data, I believe I loose a lot of money on lower leagues and tennis. Most of the money I make comes from the EPL.
Now I make it a point not to bet on lower leagues anymore. Because Im 2/18 on lower leagues like Championship,Legaue 2,Blue Square premier, Bundes Liga 2 (North,South), Serrie B and C. Now I will only bet on "maor leagues" that's why I started the "major league" blog. _________________ Now making money isn't everything but havin it is. |

That should count as 600 less how much you backed it I think, the most you could lose.
I think I've become a little more sensible, cuttting out the crazy bets or
keeping them very small and putting most of my cash on more boring
football doubles / DNB. I'd be doing a lot better just sticking to the big teams.
Losing a few quid here and there all adds up and then I take a
'certain' double, bigger stake, and think 'that wasn't so hard'. |

On betting stakes alone my weekly figure will remain generally low. With only the odd 30p lucky15 during the week, The majority of my bets are made in the EPL on weekends, with 2-3 £5 score casts or first goal scorers.
There is also the religious Euro Millions and UK lottery on the weekends, We all can dream
My weekly spend would increase however if you take into consideration live poker events. I use a different pot for my poker exploits so its easier to track my P/L. But I don't see Poker as gambling. _________________ "He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life." |

I'm interested in how much the UK bets as a whole. Does anyone gather this information?
Also, how much is bet on particular UK-based sporting events?
I read that William Hill expected total gambling on the 2007 Grand National to exceed £250m, which seems a staggering figure to me.
But how much is wagered, for example, on the Premiership each season, regardless of the country of origin of the bettor? |

| Not sure if any of you guys have read the Gambling commision survey. |
You can read this here ..
http://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/Client/detail.asp?ContentId=288
... and maybe it will answer some of the above posters questions.
I can't help thinking that sampling the general public to ask about their gambling habits may lead to false results? No one will ever over-estimate how much money they lose on gambling but I think that many will under estimate it? |
