Not sure if any of you guys have read the Gambling commision survey.

You can read this here ..

http://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/Client/detail.asp?ContentId=288

... and maybe it will answer some of the above posters questions.

I can't help thinking that sampling the general public to ask about their gambling habits may lead to false results? No one will ever over-estimate how much money they lose on gambling but I think that many will under estimate it?

As a casino manager of 30yrs+ I have seen a lot of gamblers. But I accept it can be for some a entertainment rather than a problem.Take the the test why do you bet how many times do you bet (week or day),and most important what percentage of your take home income.Do not mistake this for your spending money include it in household out goings.
Then look at a insolvency website and look at how they expect people to make changes in thier lifestyle to aviod bancruptcy or insolvency. Also do not be afraid of visiting the gamble aware site.Or talking to others about how much and how often you gamble.
Remember if like me you only want to test yourself against the bookies you can do that here and it won't cost you a penny.

hi all,
just been reading this blog and i have decided to explain why i have not been on olbg recently.to cut a long story short, i hit rock bottom due to my gambling.i would guess in the last year i have lost over 100,000 . the bulk of that in the last 6 months. i am now taking a break from it as it was putting a big strain on my relationship with my partner as well as my bank balance. first of all ,i am not loaded and the loss of that amount of money has nearly wiped me out.and what has contributed to my problem[besides my complete lack of discipline]has been my online accounts.i won,t bore you to death with all the reasons i lost.but i will give you 2 examples; i never followed baseball or us ice hockey before untill this year.when i realised it was on in the early hours of the morning i started betting on it,usually staying on the computer all night and then getting 1 or 2hours sleep before going to work and also i was losing a fortune , even though i did not understand baseball or hockey.one night i lost 21,000 on it before getting most of it back 2 nights later and another night i had 14,000 in my account after a win and because i was under pressure financially i said to my self i would only do some small bets as i needed that money for something.after about 5 mins on the computer i logged off and then realised i had nothing left in my account. i shocked myself that night.anyway sorry for going on and on but i feel like a weight has lifted off my shoulders by just saying this and also,if i had a paid more attention to this website i would not be in the position i am in today. thanks for listening Win
ps; i probably should have wrote this under a different blog.

Swash - sorry to hear your tale. Enjoy your break, focus on the important stuff.

This game is dangerous and it does us all good to be reminded of it now and then. http://www.online-betting-guide.co.uk/forum/topic30_5662.html

Very sorry to hear about this swashbuckler - I'm sure that if you take some more time out to re-group then you'll look at things from a different perspective.

Also, don't want to give advice where I'm not qualified but it seems that some counselling would definitely be beneficial if you haven't tried it already (check betfairalfie's link above).

Take care mate and keep us updated of any progress - all the best! Win

Hello, new here and my first post. dont think its going to be my last though. This site is amazing!

Anyway my usual betting stake is £5 or less. I know I'm never going to get rich off it unless I hit a big accumulator but at the same time I know I can handle the losses. Sorry if I sound boring but I learnt my lesson a few years back.

Got made redundant and got £1200 redundancy pay. Trying to raise it up I put it on a horse called New inn at 8/11. Tipped everywhere, appeared to have the form and class. Easy money.

Of course it finished 2nd . Shocked

Ooops.

That was one of the worst feelings in my life. That was about 95 or 96, can't remember properly. bought some beers with some change I had on the way home to drown my sorrows. Like it helped.

I do love gambling though.

Anyway, there you go. I play for fun now, if I lose, it doesn't matter. If I win it doesn't matter, but maybe one day, I'll hit a streak put all my winnings on another bet and hit the biggie?? Or watch it go back to the bookie chappies? Wink

Winners and Losers with out losers you do not have winners they balance each other out but with a constant supply of funds coming into the industry from other area's of the financial pool (punters with plenty of cash) some see this as an easy way of making money,Bookmaker's and online sites now how to entice punters and you can easily get hooked, even some of the TV programme's that have been screened this year have some realy sad stories on gambling that has envolved very large amounts of cash. But when a punter recovers from his ordeal of hitting that slippery slope and gets back to a level world the OLBG site is one that is packed with helpful advice.
