Benzema at 34/1. Crazy price.

Too right, that is an excellent shout. On absolutely delicious form at the moment, playing the football of his life so far - all the focus in French football is on this man. He has just recently been named Ligue 1 player of the year, scoring 19 goals in the competition. Benzema is only 20 years of age, and will be looking to show his class in the Euros.

Torres at 14s could be a decent shout as he for me has been the best striker in the EPL this year settled in no time at all. Expect the price to shorten quickly though so if you want to get on, get on now! Ribery at 66s I hear, wow that is a decent bet.

Benzema, Ribery and Torres are my selections.

Those who want to back Raul should know that he did not make the 31 man preliminary squad. Slim chance of him being included in the squad even after his terrific season with Real Madrid this season.

Hi All

I reckon both Croatia and Russia will do well this summer.
For Russia I am going for Pavlyuchenko and Arshavin both available @ 100-1
For Croatia I am with Trader 1204 on Petric @ 40-1 and I will be on Luka Modric the new £16.5M Spurs player again up around the 100-1 mark
One thing I have noticed is that some bookies are paying a quarter of the odds for a top 3 finish rather than top 4 as always double check.

Of the two Dutch strikers named so far I think Huntelaar EW @50/1 (1/4 odds 1234 with Ladbrokes and Coral) is much better value than Nistelrooy @18/1.

I'll have the price of a pint on it Fingers Crossed , in honour of the Dutch girlfriend Smile

Just looked back in a little bit more detail at where the team of the top scorers has finished.

Since that win for Holland & Van Basten in 88, the top scorers or joint top scorers in this competition have all played for the teams that have reached the semis an won the 3rd 4th place play offs. So thats the teams thats finished 3rd

World cup 94 a russian guy Oleg Salenko finished joint top scorer with Russia not making it outta the group stage, tho he scored 5 of his 6 goals agasint Cameroon.

Wonder if any bookies are taking bets that the top scorer in this competition will also get a 3rd place medal Confused

Del Piero is the man on fire right now. 9 goals in last 7 games.
strike that ..... 11 in last 8 Cool

I do believe he has been selected in the Italian squad and if given the chance by Donadoni could be a great contender at a probable big price.

Only info i have found on the squads have been in dribs and drabs so if anyone knows where the final squads can be found, please post a link Win

Other info: Raul and Bojan left out of spain squad Shocked

Don't think the Italian squad has finjalised yet. I believe it's just a provisional one at the mo.

As for the Spanish squad most of Spain knew Raul would not be picked as he's not on good terms with the coach. As for Boban he declined a place in the squad stating he wanted to rest after playing solidly for 2 years now.

As far as I'm aware the Swedes, Portuguese & the Croats are the only ones to submit final selections. The rest are all provisional.

If anyone was considering Trezeguet, theres no point considering anymore, hes been left out of France's provisional 30 squad Confused Lose

Some very odd decisions in some of these provisional squads so far...

Just adding to fianna's research above is the fact that in the tournaments present format (since 1996), the top goal scorer has scored 5 goals and has done all of his scoring by the group and quarter final stage, with the exception of Alan Shearer in 1996 who scored his 5th and final goal in the semi final against Germany, but he would have won the golden boot with 4 anyway.

So going on this logic I'm going to avoid what will arguably be the most competitive and low scoring group which to my mind is Group C, ruling out any French, Italians, Dutch or Adrian Mutu!

Just got a sneaky feeling the top goalscorer may come from an unfancied side this time around.

To my knowledge there is no 3rd/4th place play off in the European Championships.

I'll be sticking to Spain & Germany strikers on the assumption that both should definitely qualify from their groups.

fantastic reasoning Fastal72

A lot of people will not even stop to think about it but there wont be many goals in that group. I would also agree with Klose shout as their group is relatively weak and they should go far. Defintely don't like the krancjar, Ribery, benzema etc as it is practically always an out and out poacher (or at least a striker) that wins the Boot at major tournaments.

Klose
Torres

and the Russian boy from Zenit ? makes a good outsider.

hi all
just starting to look at euro 2008 now and a few bets that appeal to me are,, torres 10/1 [Boylesports] top goalscorer
ronaldo 10/1 [Boylesports] top goalscorer
i know these are obvious picks but considering the form they have shown this year and they are both playing with teams potentially capable of winning euro 08 outright they will both get plenty of goalscoring chances. ronaldo will probably have the edge as he takes penalties and free kicks. but i can`t help remembering torres at the last world cup when he burst on to the seen with 3 goals [ correct me if i am wrong as i am going on memory here] in his 1st 2 games. i think he scored a double against tunisia[cannot remember who he scored the other goal against]
as spain are my fancies for the outright ,i will also put up spain/torres 33/1 Boylesports for outright/topgoalscorer. this is very good value as i could only get 20/1 hills [among the top bookies]
but the best bet of the lot has to be Boylesports;
past players[henry and van nistlerooy] 6/4
draw 7/2
present players [torres and ronaldo] e/vs
the price is not great but in my eyes torres and ronaldo should be no better than 1/3.they are certain starters [bar injury] and van nistlerooy is not a certain starter with holland as before he got injured with real madrid, van basten had dropped him from the holland squad [if my memory serves me right ] ..to me this is a 10 star bet/max bet in my eyes and it is not restricted to singles. Win
good luck with your selections everyone Smile
