PostPosted: Fri Nov 02, 2007 12:53 pm    Post subject: BOXING: Joe Calzaghe Vs Mikkel Kessler (Sun 4th Nov 0.45)

Well what a couple of GREAT fights coming up, next month will see Ricky Hatton take on Floyd Mayweather in what i think could be one of the greatest ever fights and definatly Ricky's toughest test but before that we have another great fight in the making as the Undefeated WBO Super Middleweight Champion of world Joe "The Pride of Wales" Calzaghe takes on the current WBA/WBC Super Middleweight champion of the world Mikkel Kessler, thats the introducing part over lol lets get on with what will happen....

Mikkel Kessler who is actually have English with his mum being English comes over to Cardiff looking to defend his two titles and also walk away with Joe's WBO title, he has a 100% record with 39 wins from 39 fights producing 29 Knock Outs, most vast majority of his fights have come on home soil with just two of his 39 fights coming outside Denmark, once in Australia and the other over in the US, i would not say either of those were against particulary differcult opponents even though he was taken all the way by Anthony Mundine over in Australia but the fight which does stand out to me is when he knocked out Markus Beyer last fights ago who is not the easiest guy to knock down, in his last fight he came up against the undefeated Librado Andrade which went all the way but he was an easy winner on points.

Not alot can be said about Joe Calzaghe that we dont already know, he is the Undefeated WBO Super Middleweight champion which he has held for over ten years, he has won all his 43 fights so far in his career and has notched up 32 knock outs in that time, some people including myself have been dissapointed with some of his opponents which have been picked for him, Jeff Lacy was a decent opponent but apart from that nothing really testing but that will all change with this fight and this will be the toughest fight of his career to date and he goes into this fight looking to punish Mikkel for showing him no respect in the build up to the fight.

This is a very tough fight call, i have a friend in Denmark who rates Kessler very highly and he thinks that Kessler will win this fight with ease but he is going to say that but im not going under estimate his ability because he obviously pocess's some, but the odds for a winning fighter do not look the best and i think the fight will go to points with it very hard to split the two of them, i think with home advantage and with massive crowd behind him i feel that Joe can once again pull out a result here so im going to go with Joe Calzaghe to win on points.

Because this is going to be a very close fight and i don't think there will be alot in it there maybe another bet worth looking at, im not sure who the three judges are yet but it may be looking at the bet Calzaghe to win the fight by a split decision which is available at 10/1, this is of course depending on the judges and where they come from and finally one other bet which wouldn't surprise me if it happened, we all know that Joe is one of the most determined boxers around and that he will never give up but at times leaves himself open to punches and Kessler has a pretty good punch on him so this bet may be worth a small punt Calzaghe to receive a standing eight count and go and win the fight which is available at 12/1.

Would love to hear what you guys think too as im more of a boxing fan and watching fights, not usually a betting man on boxing.

I would say a Joe Calzaghe win via UD is the best bet, actually I think it's a cert. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Joe hit the deck once or twice, but Kessler's action is too one dimensional, and he hits too straight. My bet of the fight is Calzaghe win (whilst being cut - blood shown from eye/cheek) at 16-1.

Nice write up Zipster.

Just like you I enjoy watching boxing rather than placing my hard earned.

I haven't seen Kessler fight so my opinions may hold a Welsh bias.

But was listening to the local radio station tonight and Frank Warren was the guest - he's of the opinion that this fight could go the full 12.

so the Calzaghe by split decision @10's could be value.

But I fancy a stoppage so the Joe Calzaghe - KO or TKO @ 4/1 appeals to me.

But I also would like to read others views on this fight Confused

Personally I'll be on at small stakes, Calzaghe to win by KO @ 4/1.

Home advantage and wanting to prove he can fly at the top level (again) will be enough for Joe to get the decision I think. Wouldnt be surprised if theres a similar "premature" ending like when Calzaghe beat Manfredo.

What a great fight Win

There was times when i thought my bet on Joe to be knocked down and still get up to win cause he was sloppy at times and kept dropping his hands which i hate and Kessler caught him with a few hard punches but nothing to put him down, Joe proved his class and quality tonight and deserves and big money fight next year, credit to both boxers and once Joe retires Kessler will be world champion.

Great fight, at times I was worried Joe would get KO'd, especially when he started dancing around with his hands low in rounds 11 and 12. Came through though, great win and great fight.

Looking forward to the possibility of Calzaghe vs Hopkins Win

joes proven he's probably up there with the best of the past few generations and the best smw (im not counting jones's short stay there). Froch to beat reid in theit up coming fight (this friday) would probably be a safe bet though the odds are kinda crap.
