I'm excited about this fight and if its anything like their first enoucnter it'll be a great spectacle. Taylor the classy boxer against the hard hitting Pavlik with a huge heart. Key questions are can Taylor come back from that KO he suffered against Pavlik just 5 months ago without having a warm up fight before hand? How gun shy will Taylor be? Is Taylor just looking for 1 more payday before hanging up his gloves? He seems determined enough. Sacked Emanuel Steward and went back to his old trainer. Apparently he's in great shape.
I have my money on the repeat (Pavlik to win by KO TKO or DQ at evens) just solely due to the fact that most boxing rematches (especially ones where there is a straight KO) end up with the same winner as the first time round. Its not often that a boxer recovers and comes back the next fight to beat the man who KO'd him. I think the telling point in the bout will be when Taylor gets hit hard. Then we will see whether he has the appetite or not.
The only reason why I did not really bet big on this fight is that I really think Taylor is a fantastic boxer and I thought he would win it first time out. I didn't really rate the tall, gangly, one dimensional Pavilk. How he has proved me wrong however.
So how do you people see this fight going? |

I'm going to go against the grain of most boxing fans here and predict a Jermain Taylor win.
I'm basing this on the last performance, as I had Taylor winning by two points before he was stopped. And if he didn't try to put Pavlik into the ground in that second round he wouldn't have gassed so early. He should take his time this time around and we all know that Taylor could easily out-box Pavlik if he used his head and avoided Pavlik's big right hand and uppercut. He also would've certainly trained harder this time around (I saw him in training and he looks ripped and very determined) and should be more energetic in the later rounds. Plus Taylor's already had Pavlik on queer street already so his punches can definitely hurt Pavlik - he just needs to box sensibly and be prepared to go twelve gruelling full rounds.
I don't think the 166lbs catchweight limit will make a massive difference anyway. |
