Hows we see it going lads? I personally can't see past Calzaghe's speed winning it for him by points though 1.5 does seem a litle low with him going up a weight against a guy recognised as a top fighter at the weight. Can't see either man stopping the other, both are tough as old horse chestnuts, difference is that popkins is getting on, and is a spoiler as opposed to a fighter now a days.
Ok and a question...is this basically unbackable on points as far as spreads are concerned?
Looked at a couple of spread betting sites, and I see the spread on JC is 9.5-11 with:
0 for the loss
5 for a draw
10 for the win on points
25 for the win by ko or tko |

I see Calzaghe winning on points but the fight itself will be a bore fest as Ive never seen Hopkins in a decent all out action fight and at the age of 43 don't think we are going to see a change in tactics now so expect elbows low blows and illegal use of the head, but for all that a points victory for Joe should be safest bet |

| These two really should have met like 5 years ago. What a fight that would have been! That would have been much harder to call. Now all I can see if Calzaghe out pointing Hopkins in a match with lots of holding. Calzaghe has shown that he cannot make an exciting fight unless the opponent comes at him with all guns blazing. He looks terrible against negative fighters and I think that would be in Hopkins's game plan. |

Agree with all of the above but I feel the biggest factor about this result is the one thing no-one has mentioned - it's in America.
We all know that it is heavy odds on to go to points and so the outcome of the fight comes down to the integrity of the judges. How many times have you seen an American get outboxed but managed to spoil the fight enough to give the judges something to go on.
I think they will feel that they can't give the decision against Calzaghe but really don't want to 'fail' the American and therefore I will be backing the DRAW @ 22/1. _________________ AVFC - PROUD HISTORY, BRIGHT FUTURE

| I agree with you John Mac, in the US of A you have got to knock the guy out twice to win, Calzaghe has got to beat him to a pulp and then knock him out, thats why i dont think it is going to be a bore because Calzaghe will want to leave his Mark, thats why he will give him a boxing lesson, Bigtime. I am going to back Calzaghe to win inside the distance. |

| Well it wasn't as boring as expected. Infact in spurts both threw some dazzling combinations. Neither fighter really hurt the other.Calzaghe rightly won it in my opinion. |

certainly wasnt boring,up until the 11th i could really see hopkins taking the decision, luckily for me joe took the last 2 narrowly and my calzaghe points/tarver double came in.i could'nt beleive how fit, fast and durable b-hop was at the age of 43,makes you think what would have happened to calzaghe if this was fought a few years ago |

Houdani makes a decent shout, for an OAP, Hopkins is mighty good, even without his zimmerframe. Jokes aside though, that was a tight fight - might have even scored it to B-hops myself _________________ PLAY UP POMPEY |

| I dont see how anyone couldve scored it in Hopkins favour, it was a poor fight, but Calzaghe was a comfortable winner by a couple of rounds in my opinion. Hopkins did very little after the first couple of rounds, Calzaghe was the aggressor, threw more, landed more, and deservedly won. |

| talking of boring fights though, did anyone have the misfortune to watch the audley harrison bout on the undercard? hopkins/calzaghe was like hagler/hearns compared to that.watching audley plod around the ring throwing a left jab once every 30 seconds against a club fighter was not the best build up to a fight of such stature. |
