The objective of the OLBG scheme was clear from the first post of this thread so I cannot see why anyone would object to those chosen. If you don't want to give something back to the sports we love then don't. But please don't waste your first post by moaning about it. |

Theres hundreds, probably thousands of charities to chose from.
Many of the human ones (Cancer, Aged, Children) + others like RPCA are very high profile and get a lot of support already, other smaller ones are often more local to a particular region (hospices etc). All are very deserving of course.
We thought its best if we focus on
1. lesser know charities where £1,000 really makes a difference
2. stuff thats relevant to us in terms of being sports related
Its probably too strong to say that racehorses are exploited for our entertainment, but personally I feel we owe them something back. |

if u feel strongly against the racehorse charity, then u can donate to the great football giveaway project.. it makes loads of kids and people happy.
look at how football unified iraq when they won the asia cup! |

Thanks very much for all your generous donations. These 100 footballs are sure to change the lives of a lot of kids who live in some of the poorest countries. I heard that in some areas the footballs are used to encourage the kids to go to school.
Only £98 needed to send that £1000 to the Great Football Giveaway.
Yes we have tried to find charities which are related to what we do - if people who bet on horses day in day out dont give some support to the charities which aid them then who will.
With these lesser known charities - as well as giving them cash we hope that we are helping to raise their profiles. I guess that not all of you had heard about HEROS and The Great Football Giveaway.
Seperate from the Charity Scheme we are also supporting Greatwood who as well as helping horses also use the horses to help Children with special needs. Money has also been given to Comic Relief and Sport Relief.
Might be a good time for those of you who dont agree with the chosen charities to mail in suggestions for future charities. |
