Im pleased to announce OLBG Charity No. 3
Cricket without Boundaries
Who are they
Cricket Without Boundaries [CWB] is a UK based charity dedicated to helping, educating and developing local communities around the World through the spread and growth of cricket. It is also about personal empowerment, both for adults and for children. The Charity uses the sport to help develop personal skills ranging from basic teamwork to self-discipline and leadership.
Through visits to schools and orphanages, organising tournaments, providing of equipment and coaching clinics for adults CWB is committed to taking the game of cricket to a new generation of coaches and children.
Through cricket's unifying qualities and the enthusiasm of others, CWB aims to bring diverse and often polarised communities together. In a world of ever-increasing religious and racial tension, cricket can be a great catalyst in uniting future generations.
Why they need donations
Cricket Without Boundaries is not just about sustainable cricket development. Crucially it is also about using the game of cricket as a tool in the fight against the modern plague that is AIDS. Cricket without Boundaries training sessions have at their heart discussion about the disease both in terms of prevention and treatment. The charity also stands for equality of treatment for those with the disease; children and adults regardless of their status are included in coaching, games and competitions.
What the money goes towards
Cricket and coaching equipment and transportation
- Kwik cricket sets, 'traditional' equipment, coaching cards etc.
- AIDS awareness materials
- shirts and caps for the children/coaches/participants with cricket and AIDS awareness messages on them, printing awareness messages to be included in cricket materials.
- Transportation of and accommodation for coaching staff within Africa during coaching sessions.
Why we are supporting them
OLBG.co.uk is dedicated to ensuring donations go to a mix of sporting charities. Cricket Without Boundaries was an ideal choice, the charity has shown sounds commitment in educating and developing local communities around the World.
Our donation
OLBG.co.uk would like to give £1000 of our member’s donations to this cause. We currently stand at £500, once this hits £1000 we will be able to make a difference to these communities around the world.
Thank you
We would like to thank everyone for their continued support towards the OLBG.co.uk member’s charity donation scheme and look forward to breaking that £1000 barrier!

Antony ,I have just spotted the "new" charity, Cricket without boundaries
Whilst I have no doubt whatsover that this is a very deserving and worthwhile charity... I would ask ,however, how much is donated by the E.C.B and the I.C.C. since they "sold their souls" to Sky TV, and apparently generated an additional £100 million worldwide....PER YEAR !
Perhaps we should ask them to match every pound raised by OLBG by say £ 10,000 ! |

It does seem that this charity choice hasn't sparked OLBGers imagination as much as the others.
Just 11 GBP away from the 3k here, so come on November winners - give it some support |

i was looking forward to getting my £5 November award for my regular contributions to OLBG v THE BOOKIES & my all new very popular horse racing blog - but it was not to be. This would almost certainly have gone to charity.
I'll just have to redouble my efforts for this month - and redouble my charity donation too |

The Rugby League Benevolent Fund aims to support players whose lives are affected by serious injuries sustained while playing the game.
The Fund - which already contains monies generated by the successful 2005 Rugby Football League President’s Ball - will generate further income in a variety of ways.
Significantly it will receive £1 from every ticket sold for all future Powergen Challenge Cup Finals and engage Super League Grand Finals from 2006 onwards. The profits from all future RFL President’s Balls will also go into the fund.
Every professional club and the Community Game has given its support to earmarking Easter as a major fund raising weekend for the Benevolent Fund. Other fund raising activities will also include the auction of Rugby League merchandise from major events. The fund will also be able to accept charitable donations.
The Benevolent Fund will be offering support to seriously injured players via the RFL’s Welfare Officer David Phillips.
The Rugby League Benevolent Fund will be administered by a Committee of Trustees who will meet regularly. Chaired by former Huddersfield Giants Director Tim Adams, the other members of the committee are; former Great Britain captain and current Sky Sports expert summariser Phil Clarke, David Hinchliffe, the recently retired MP and previously secretary of the Rugby League All Party Parliamentary Group, current Leeds Rhinos Chief Executive Gary Hetherington, the Rugby Football League’s Chief Operating Officer, Nigel Wood.
Phil Clarke - who will act as a spokesperson - commented on the launch of the fund: "We believe the Rugby League Benevolent Fund can perform an important role within the sport.
Although serious life-changing injuries are rare in Rugby League, it is critically important that any players who are affected receive the best support possible. The creation of the Fund will begin the process of delivering this".
Clarke added: "The family and community spirit which exists within Rugby League will greatly assist the growth and development of the fund over the coming seasons and supporters attending the sport’s major events can take satisfaction from the fact that they are contributing directly to this important initiative".
Donations to the fund can be made by cheques payable to the Rugby League Benevolent Fund forwarded to the RFL headquarters at Red Hall, Leeds, LS17 8NB.
You can help us further by using the Gift Aid application form
Using Gift Aid means that for every pound you give, we get an extra 28 pence from the Inland Revenue, helping your donation go a little further. This means that £10 can be turned into £12.80 just so long as donations are made through Gift Aid. Imagine what a difference that could make, and it doesn?t cost you a thing.
So if you want your donation to go further, Gift Aid it. Just complete this form and send it back to us.

i guess it may not generate much interest as rugby league is out of season now but may be worthy of future consideration when super league starts from february and the world cup late next year. anyone who has played this sport or enjoys watching this will know how gladitorial and physically demaiding the sport can be and players week in week out put their health on the line, rarely thankfully with severe injury an occurance. however at times injuries can be horrendous, instant and career ending. unlike footballers who can earn between 50 to 100 thousand pounds a week, rugby league players can be fortunate to earn that a season. not only can an injury end a career, it can basically end a man's working life. a bonus of getting some cash off the tax man is always welcome too through the gift aid scheme.
former great britain captain and wigan legend, forward phil clarke (now analyst for sky sports rugby league coverage) had his career ended with a broken neck at sydney roosters in his first year there (thankfully he recovered, however was unable to carry on playing), and given he is one of the spokesmen for this initiative, any donated money will surely be in safe hands. just a suggestion. _________________ top rugby tipster april 2007 |

Excellent
I know its a "big" charity but I do hope that all those who attempt to make money on NH horse racing give very generously. These "little" folks risk serious injury every time they silk up. Would you do their job? |
