Many respected members of this forum have correctly stated that Discipline is the key to succesful betting. In my humble opinion, a key element of this discipline is to keep a detailed and daily record of your betting transactions
As you know, I bet on horse racing, but records are important irrespective of the betting medium
Your opinions would be valued, together with a poll to see just how many of us do in fact record their bets in DETAIL!..Be honest with yourself before recording your vote Cheeky

For years I didn't bother when I was only betting small but since going about 80% full time back in January 07 I've kept records since - it's a must for anyone who wants to take things seriously in this game. Win

I bought an A4 Lined 80 Sheet Book and have kept all my bets writen down in there, along with pts required for targets, target pts per day, ROI, and Net Profit columns, and I record each bet and the new totals after every bet, it helps me to see where I go right/wrong. Also keep track of the time of the bet and date, definately helped me to improve my betting overall in all honesty 1st

inat - paper lists? bit last century mate Smile if you don't mind me saying, so difficult to analyse come post-mortem time. But any record is better than none I guess.

Spreadsheet fan myself, as I may have mentioned before Smile , and the sheet works out the stake for me to reinforce staking plan and save my braincells. It evens auto-wires the profits to UBS in Geneva on the 25th of every month Laughing

I was going to knock up a fancy pantsey sql database but I was a bit too lazy and my SQL query knowledge isn't really good enough to get the most of it.

I'm now planning a decent Excel sheet that will give me everything I need to know.

Once finished i'll post it up for all to see, steal and admire as i'm sure it will be of sue to some.

My others have all been a bit half baked and while they've collected data they haven't had enough to really help me work things out and not been split out well enuogh.

Alfie, despite still being young, I am relatively old-fashioned in that sense, I tried the spreadsheet approach but it doesn't feel as effective to me as the old shreaded tree approach Smile It also helps me to pass some time, and on the last 6 pages I have tabulated a daily close section where I put my balance, daily profit/loss, daily withdrawals and Net Profit, so I am set for a year. And after those 6 pages I write down any information and analyse most of my bets to see what I can view the real chance of the bet comming in is. Highly effective in my view, I got the A4 Book from Tesco and it was discontinued so it only cost me 82p, I ended up buying 10 and some pens for under £10, use them for University revision notes, general notes, essay notes, and just my own personal ramblings, jokes, poems etc... Can't beat the old hardbacks in my opinion Very Happy

Since i have started increasing my bets a little, i have decided that doing a spreadsheet with all the horses i have bet on, stakes i put, position etc

My spreadsheet will have functions so all i have to do is put in the stake, Each Way yes or no, place terms and finishing position and it will do the rest

Will help me to see if i am up or down, just basic if im a losing punter or a winning one

Is a long way from finished at the minute but will be there soon hopefully

As you now i have been a stickler for keeping records because the way i bet, if i had not kept records i might have missed Auras Prince 50/1 at aintree as i follow horses 3 times after i have selected them on my blog and plenty of other long priced horses have come out and won, i use the recovery tank for this purpose, but i must admit if some one says to me ,what were you doing on such and such a date say june 10th last year, i could not remember, but tell me that was the day of the Derby and i can recall the whole day like a photo, racing has that effect on me, thats why records are so improtant, yes Roger 100%, you have to be Disciplined.
