For me its all about the fine line between fun / a past time and serious gambling as a way to make money only for the latter would i feel the need to record bets.

I think I might start recording my bets now. Seems like a better way of doing things. However, I tend to bet lots rather than a few condensed one. Perhaps that would be the first step..narrowing down bets!

absolutely I dont - I dont keep anything.

hate order and much prefer spontaneity and freshness.

every bet is a new bet for me and given that, for me personally - and i know it does not apply to everyone, horse racing is a hobby, a fun outlet in life and the thought of keeping anything, especially records, would dry my soul!

It would pain me to think I'd spent hours and days pouring over records and form only to find my horse trail in last! I much prefer to look on the day and go with a few minutes of research and a bit of intuition. A spontaneous selection - and if it loses, never mind.

However, I am not wishing to denigrate those that do keep records. I totally understand that professionals ought to - i can see it is probably essential but I could never be the professional. for me personally, life is too rich and varied to be limited to hours of studying horse form.

FAO: the professional gamblers on here. Since most of you keep records, would you say you are on a profit overall or a loss? Just interested.

Overall OLBG profit over last 12 months

Those that keep additional records:
Roger Green +585
yoyoleo -£18,229
deco121 -£23,048
Inatimate1 -£5,735
Betfairalfie +£3,191
fairfranco +£202
colindune +£1,638
abhinn +£2,345

strick206 -£285
turfline +£2,086
KEV THE FISH -£250
enfieldboy -£3,800
OutSiders4Me -£50

Those that do not keep additional records:
MrLPedigree - No Tips
onaed -£34,651
princecap +£1,249
wize 1 +£6,625

martinallen72 -£3,349

So on this small sample 50% of those who responded were in profit over last 12 months on OLBG and it didn't really seem to matter if they kept records on not.

PRO Gamblers who lose money wouldn't be very pro would they, unless they get another revenue stream like selling their tips or being a racing pundit.

You can't have improvement without some sort of records and a review system, in my view. Whether your a Pro or a Hobby Punter you'd surely want to continually improve.

Hi, When I first came on here in Dec 2006 the primary aim was to use it to finally record my own betting habits. I always knew, or thought i knew , that i was making rather than losing money but i always lost interest along the way in recording bets. I also wanted to see which my better areas were.

I'm not sure if my profit (£33,000 or 169 pts lsp (3 mths missing)) was due to me recording bets or not but it did allow me to focus on my better areas. I now rarely touch the areas that i made losses at & in theory improved my profits.

I am a bit of a spreadsheet freak so it usually is a pleasure , not a chore but it IS a worthwhile exercise

Of course!

Just felt the pro comment needed a response in the positive!

It was in response to monetry values being posted in a previous mail.

Pride rather than boasting I feel!
