2.15 Chester - STOTSFOLD

He is something of a course and distance specialist having won a couple of handicaps here in 2006, the latter in impressive fashion and was also runner up at this meeting last season. Made the step up to pattern company look easy when running on to good effect to score in the Group 3 Select Stakes at Goodwood from the highly progressive Zaham. Started this campaign in the 9f Group 3 Earl Of Sefton Stakes at Newmarket when running a race full of promise when running on late to good effect leaving the impression he could be in store for another good season. Some could argue he has something to find with Multidimensional on his latest run and also has to give him 3lbs here, but he does hold course experience over him and that more often than not counts for a lot. The obvious danger is Maraahel who is going for an incredible fourth straight win in this race but, he may just get found out on fast ground over 10f in his advancing years.

2.45 Chester - DOCTOR FREMANTLE (NAP)

It may seem a little unusual to go for a horse in a Group 3 race when his last run in a handicap ended in defeat, but it was no run of the mill race and one that could look very good. He was very well backed in the morning and was sent off a very short favourite and made smooth progress before being hard ridden and not immediately picking up. However, he was running on again towards the finish but found Bronze Cannon just too good but the pair had pulled some 5 lengths clear and the winner is very well thought of. But so too is Doctor Fremantle and Stoute very much sees him as a Group horse and todays trip of 12f should bring out the best in him and he can score today. Feared In Flight on paper looks to have some good form but, he is started to look exposed and though this longer trip could help him too, he could be vulnerable to something a little less exposed. Pampas Cat's work has been brilliant since his debut win and the form of that win has been franked by the second and third both winning since, but I think he may find one too good here.

3.15 Chester - ROYALIST (NB)

He is a well regarded son of Kings Best who partook in a very good maiden on his one and only start as a juvenile at Glorious Goodwood last season when he was in contention until the final 100 yards. Made his reappearance at Doncaster early last month in a 7f maiden when, despite hanging left, ran out a most convincing three and a half length winner from Alwaabel. Has to show he can handle quicker conditions today, but no reason why he shouldn't and he could be a very nice sort indeed and yard won this with a similar sort in Notability in 2005. Adversity and Wasan are two horses I like but both have poor draws and also the latter has been walloped with a stone rise for a facile success last time out and may also want the ground on the slower side.

4.00 Chester - SENATORIAL

The Barry Hills yard have won this for the last three years with River Kintyre, Captain Marvellous and Dark Angel and this colt looks more than capable on what he showed on his debut to add to that tally. He ran in a 5f Conditions event when he was slightly outpaced before staying on again behind the useful Art Connoisseur and showed quite a bit of promise. Form has stood up well with a winner and a few placed and though he does have a wide draw, his experience should stand him in good stead.

Well, after a bad day yesterday i am full of confidence for today although i will be happily taking on a possible fav, but just spotted aidens post above i am not the only one who is thinking of ths one today

2.15 Chester

STOTSFOLD

Little to add to what aiden has already outlined other than consolidating this ones best form, sees a very strong trens under certain conditions. Cinditions which al come together for todays contest. When racing at 1m2f or thereabouts on good to firm or faster going, Wally swinburns charge has an impressive 5 wins from 7 runs, this can actually be improved to 5 wins from 6 in races with 11 or less runners. All those factors come together today, coupled with excellent course experience and form, although we know the likely fav has won this race for the past three renewals and has just as an impressive record here, i think the crown will have to be handed over to my selection. The widest draw of the 6 willprobably be worth another half point or so on the price whilst the fav will be shorter than it should be simply becaiuse of its record in this race and of course trainer. Think this is a great value bet to get today under way.

4.45 Goodwood SORTITA

Hi I'm new to this posting lark but T J O'Brien is going to Wincanton for one race only so might be worth looking at Boot'n Toot to cause an upset over the odds on fav Woolcombe Folly.

Fancy quite a few this evening but hopefully this lot can go well first. Wink

Green Prospect (2:35) Newton Abbot * can be dangerous to get too heavily involved in claimers but this one does look to have very sound claims. He's very consistent and made all to win over 2m last time at Wincanton so comes here in good form. He's won over further than this before so will have no problems with the step up to 2m3f, he'll enjoy the ground conditions and he should be very tough to beat in a weak race.
1st @ 7/4 Win

Wassily Kandinsky (2:45) Chester * still a maiden after 4 starts as a 2yo in Ireland and steps up in class here to Group 3 company for the first time where is priced at roughly 40/1 - I think he can go well though and is worth a quid or two at the price. He's not ungenuine and actually ran well on all 4 starts last year despite not getting his head in front. He steps up in trip by slightly more than 4f here and that should suit him down to the ground as he looked like he'd thoroughly enjoy a test of stamina like this last season. He's the stable second string here but don't be surprised if he runs a big race - decent e/w shout.

Rolling Wave (3:05) Newton Abbot * aquitted himself pretty well in some good Irish bumpers (including when 10th in the Champion bumper at Punchestown festival) and made a very pleasing debut over hurdles just 2 days ago at Exeter. He clearly enjoyed the fast ground that day when not beaten too far in 6th with only the market principles ahead and with similar conditions here again he should mount a bold effort. This looks a bit weaker and with the experience under his belt he could be a tough nut to crack over the longer trip. NAP

Nemetan (4:55) Newton Abbot * did well over fences last season and made the most of his low hurdling mark when scoring at Exeter just two days ago. He escapes a penalty for that as it was a conditionals event so with the ground again in his favour here and the step up in trip looking sure to suit he looks set to complete a quick double for connections. NB

best of luck,

Deco.

Thursday's Selections

4:45 Goodwood

Sortita (NAP) @ 13/8

This looks a good opportunity for SORTITA to build on her only 2yo run and win over an extra half mile which will suit her down to the ground. Her sole start last year came in what looked a hot little Newmarket maiden won by General Elliot who has gone on to frank the form and is now rated 93. Sortita was however very much the eyecatcher of the race having looked outpaced at halfway before staying on strongly and just failing by a neck in the end. There are mixed messages from the horses which finished in behind but there is no doubting the promise this filly showed and she is reported to have done very well through the winter. This should be her day and although I will kick myself if Savarain wins, he is yet to really threaten at the post and could have bumped into another live one here. Certainly a race to keep a close eye on........

1:45 Chester

EW Philanthropy @ 11/1

A cracking opener to todays proceedings at Chester and Escape Route attempts to build upon his recent confidence booster at the opening meeting at Great Leighs last month. He has obvious claims as he proved also that day that he stays this trip but he is a prohibitive price in such a good race and it is worth looking for an alternative. Prince Forever could be very dangerous if finding his best but given that he has raced keenly over 7f before this extra 2f looks far from ideal. Bahar Shumaal could be hard to catch if given enough rope out in front round here and if Temple Place reproduces the same form he did in this last year off just 4lbs higher then he could also feature. The interesting one though at longish odds is the Kevin Ryan trained PHILANTHROPY who looks feasibly treated on some of his form including when a close fourth here in September last year behind Buccelatti. He raced up with the pace about 3 or 4 horses wide that day which made it impossible for him to win round here but he still managed to stick on finishing only 2 lengths behind. He is also only 2lbs higher than his win over Sanbuch at York last year so if forgiven his recent run when tailed off over a trip much too far and also considering he has improved markedly for a run each season he must be given an excellent chance of at least making the frame and is good value at double figure odds.

2:15 Chester

Stotsfold (NB) @ 5/1

Simply, I agree with everything MOB and Aidan have said before me and was delighted to log on this morning and read that he was well fancied on here. Had a close look at this race last night and quickly ruled out Multidimensional as he has had plenty of problems and it is unlikely that this track and as Aidan says, another small field will play to his strengths. Spice Route has a decent chance of getting closer to Championship Point but both could be struggling here to get the better of the two course specialists Maraahel and Stotsfold. Maraahel must be given a chance as he has won this race the last 3 times but has basically shown that he isnt quite up to winning the best races and his form has levelled off now at the age of 7. He does set the bar quite high in this but Wally Swinburns STOTSFOLD could be capable of finding that little bit of extra improvement to beat him here. He has a similarly excellent record at Chester and also loves todays quick ground. He should get a good tow into the race from Championship Point and Maraahel and could put his superior race fitness to the Stoute runner to good use by proving too strong for him in the closing stages. At 5/1 he is the best value here and has an outstanding chance.

A few more at Chester caught the eye and Vivaldi looks to have a good chance in the Chester Vase at 2.45. He improved markedly between his first and second starts last year to see off Brazillian Star who was subsequently close up in Group events bhind the likes of New Approach and Curtain Call and he is now rated 105. This is only Vivaldi's 2nd start and he looks sure to have improved from 2 to 3 and will likely relish this step up to 1m4f.

Another one to consider is Not My Choice in the 4.35 who should benfit from his recent reappearance and is only 1lb higher than when winning here last year. Although all his form is over the minimum, on breeding it shouldn't be a problem especially at this track where his low draw and bold front running style can be seen to best effect. He will take a fair bit of pegging back!

Good Luck All! Win

2.45 CHESTER FEARED IN FLIGHT BAD Lose

I make no bones about the amount of faith i have in B.Hills at Chester and this would have to be one of his stronger chances imo should come on for Sandown experiences and this trip will suit . Not a fan of Jamie Spencer round here but this is a hold up horse and possibally no better jockey good record lately for Barry and if he didnt think there was a chance for this one im pretty sure it wouldnt be here today . all the aces would be my alternative .

3.15 CHESTER HUZZAHE/W Phew but who cares 1st

Michael back in the saddle for this race and hes a great judge of pace , like the way HUZZAH was "headed inside the final furlong got back up " just off the pace throughout at Newbury same as when he won at Salisbury "made all came clear unchallenged " Drawn 6 today main threats drawn poorley on the outside if this one pings the lids and settles then this is for the taking with definate place possibilites imo .

1:45 Chester - Philanthropy - (NAP)

Philanthropy is drawn one at Chester today and he is fully capable of taking advantage of that here, he is full of pace and could get an easy lead on the front, and gallop his rivals into the ground. The last time he won was at York when 25/1 springing the surprise from the front to beat the very well backed Sanbuch, he was not for catching that day and could be a similar story here for a yard in decent form. He now drops back to a trip that suits much more than the 2 miles he was over last time, and back on to a fair mark, and his form reads well here having raced off a mark of 91, he was wide throughout and was unlucky not to get home in front, having raced near to the rail he may have had the race that day. Bahar Shamaal and Prince Forever head the likely dangers.

2:45 Chester - Pampas Cat

I was very taken with Pampas Cat's debut at Newmarket when getting the better od Daraheem by 5 lengths, and with more to come he looks the one they have to beat here, Daraheem subsequently won his maiden in fine style beating the well regarded Moonquake by 2 lengths, and Checklow back in third has since come out to win his maiden, with the well beaten trio of Blimey O'Riley, Seattle Storm and Byblos all placing next time out to give the form a stronger look, he was not for stopping that day. Ground is drying up by the hour, and that should also play to the strengths of the Gosden colt who is out of Seeking The Gold by a Storm Cat mare, with plenty of influence for stamina on the dam side. Drawn one he can get an early rail pitch and should be capable of landing this prize in what is a weak renewal of the Chester Vase, A P O'Brien has to be respected but Vivaldi has a lot of improvement to make, and the price of Doctor Fremantle is far to short in my opinion, Feared In Flight should go well but the danger could come from underated All The Aces whose form reads well enough having got the better of impressive reapearance winner Enroller, Downhiller and Animator and looks the type to progress this term.

1.45 Chester - Looks a very open race and i think Prince Forever 6/1 could get off the mark for the season at the 3rd time of asking. P.Robinson rides the track very well and i feel that with the low draw in stall 4 and the good ground he has a very good chance. NAP

2.15 Chester - Can't see past Multidimensional 13/8 in this race, Maraahel will be hard to beat and also stotsfold has a good chance at his favourite track but Multidimensional should have too much class for these, the running of the race should suit him and as long as he doesn't get trouble in running should win and go onto better things.

3.15 Chester - Adversity 11/2 is the one for me in this race to upset the well backed and well Favourite. Even with the high draw in stall 12, he posted a top speed rating of 95 and with the good ground and with Ryan Moore on board I think hes got a good chance.

2:30 Newton Abbot
Green Prospect 1st
Looks the one to beat here.
Won its last race at Wincanton 18 days ago in a H/Cap Class 5 having lead from the front.
This is not a top quality race and will not take a lot to win it.
Trainer has a good record here with hurdlers; he doesn’t run many but has a 33% strike rate over the past 5 seasons.

NAP: Wincanton 6:20 Avant Gardiste

Won a similar race in impressive style over course and distance last time in the hands of today's young rider and is due to go up another seven pounds in the future. Remains on a good mark today though and can follow up with another win today with conditions in his favour.

Next Best: Newton Abbot 4:55 Nemetan

Has been a great performer in chases and returned to hurdling last time, getting in with a much lower handicap mark and taking advantage of it with a strong finish to get the better of Prince Broc at Exeter. He gets in here today without a penalty for that win and the step up it trip should suit.

Each Way: Wetherby 8:00 Secured

His handicap mark has been gradually dropping thanks to a number of runs on unsuitable softer conditions and he finally gets the ground he needs this evening. Only one win to his name but capable of taking a race of this stature and has decent place prospects here.

Good Luck Wink

SPICE ROUTE (no odds found) NAP (ew)

12/1 looks too big to me, has some good form to his name and I expect a big run today, Bell and Spencer have been a successful partnership over the years and this year is no exception, they have a solid 36% strike rate thus far and had a winner here yesterday, this is Bells sole runner at Chester today and im sure he will be hoping for a big run. For me can improve and should be fit after a decent performance last time, well worth an eachway bet at very good odds.

3:00 Goodwood
EW Vintage @ 19
Win last time out on sand, had just two runs on turf and maybe better than those runs suggest having shown improvement on the sand. 6furlongs looks his optimum trip and from bottom weight could be a big run.
3:15 Chester
Magnitude @ 9
Looks one with chance today, that 2nd last time out looks good to me as he went down to a real fighter of a horse, I like this stable to booth.
