A funny old day looking through the cards! A lot of short priced favs can be expected over the sticks tonight at NABB, whilst we have the quirks of both brighton and Yarmouth to contend with during the day. I am still giving Great Leighs a bit of a wide berth for the time being unless something outstanding (in my mind st least is out). The day for starts at my second favourite track after Goodwood, Brighton
2.40 Brighton
BEN
Only win so far has come on the all weather at Kempton on his penultimate run before being outpaced last time out. All turf outings have produced no better than four places but today could be the day to get a 1 next to his name on the green. Many differing tactics have been used from holding up to tracking leaders and making the running, fromthe draw today he should be thereabouts throughout. This 5f at Brighton is a bit moer like a 6f race anywhere else as the well known uphill run in tests the very best sprinters, but none of these have shown a great deal of effectiveness over further except for WYNBERG who comes here in search of a fourth consecutive win. He will be short in the market, but i think is worth taking. For this reason the selection should offer some good value in a race which is not cut and dried.
2.50 Southwell
OWED
Will win again, question is when?. this is not a horse to back blindly throughout a season as i expect you would find yourself well and truely out of pocket. Capable on his day, he's never going to a be a big enough price to cover the losses that inevitabley will come at this level. He's had a couple of decent enough runs, gaining places recently, and can reverse form with both CAPE OF STORMS and ELUSIVE WARRIOR today.
3.00 Yarmouth
MUSAALEM
On stable tours the trainer has consitantly pointed out this one as one to watch for the season. I am happy to go along with that and expect himto open his 4yo account this sfaternoon. Do keep an eye out though for APRES SKI, who has done very little except for when running here at yarmouth and when turning out on this type of going. He will most likely be a decent price and maybe worth a little interest
3.10 Brighton
RAZZANO
Iknow i shouldnt but i cant help it. Another course and distance winner who will have experienced this uphill climb and done enough on two occasions to score a victory here ober this distance and a runners up spot over slightly further. Both runs came in the summer last year the first in a seller like today and then the win in handicap company at 14/1. The chances are given recent form on the AW another half decent price should be available and from stall 4 is worth moinor interest in a difficult race to unravel
4.10 Brighton
BRIDGEWATER BOYSNON RUNNER (would have probably been second anyways )
The Moores team up at their local track to give this former Kevin Ryan charge an outing on the undulations of this sussex track. He can score a victory in much the same style as when justifying favouritism in a class 6 selling handicap here lasy year for the same trainer jockey cpombination. Wellcampaigned and effective up to as far as this trip, he has proved he can stay up the hill, albeit over shorter last time, and can score apopular win again today.
6.10 Newton Abbott
AIMIGAYLE (NAP)
Will be short priced, but just dont see any threat to a win here tonight. Holds CAOBA on past form, and although burdened with far more weight and a higher difference in marks than when last meeting, the form can be confirmed and no one will be more suprised than me if anything else in the line upcan prove competitive in this. There will be plenty of short priced favs at this meeting tonight and this one is the best of the lot for me.
8.40 Newton Abbott
CRITICAL STAGE NON RUNNER AGAIN
I have note to follow Frosts runner in sellers and claimers this season, but i do quite fancy him to come up trumps in handicap company in this. He is 5lbs higher than he has won at previously and comes here off the back of a win on good to soft, but can act on quicker going too. He has made three appearances here at this track in his last 14 runs taking us back to Feb '07, and has won twice includng last timeout and Augst last term. FOREST GREEN could be a danger returning to hurdles after spending the last year chasing, and to good effect it might be added especially on this going, but i never like to follow the first run back over hurldes after a chase campaign. PIPE and MURPHY could threaten too on ESTATE but CRITICAL STAGE it is for me in the closer.
Blimey didnt realise i had so many fancies for the day. Oh well, fingers crossed we find more winners than losers then. Dont think there will be any really fancy prices today as they are the ones that get the old ticker going, but i think some good solid bets included here today. _________________ NEW! 8.40 Newton Abbot
Estate
Showed promise on his first start for David Pipe ridden by Farelly in a class 3 hurdle, next time out reunited back with Timmy Murphy, record on the horse is 1 2 2 0 previousy ridden by Murphy when trained by Brookhouse, Estate ran a huge race in a class 2 at Newbury back in February when cruising and being brought down by another horse in a race where he was looking like the eventual winner.
Next time out again in a hot class 2 hurdle he shaped with promise although being beaten a dozen lengths and out of the handicap with Scud in the hotseat finishing 4th.
He will relish the drop in grade as this is a class 4 event, going and distance in his favour, his favorite partner back on board who comes here for this one race on the card, Estate comes here a fresh horse.

2.30 Yarmouth - YOKOZUNA (NB)
The obvious one here would appear to be Cool Art who ran well up to a point on his debut at Newmarket's Guineas meeting. However, while he travelled well, the way he weakened was worrying and it was perhaps too worrying to be put down to greenness and I will give a chance to Ed Dunlop's colt. He is an Efisio half brother to the smart Princess Ellen and though he will no doubt get further, is reported to be shaping up really nicely at home and has been doing plenty of early work. Yard are in good form and their first juvenile ran well enough last week to give cause for optimism and this colt could well be sharp enough to take this on debut.
3.00 Yarmouth - BANJO PATTERSON (NAP)
He was a smart horse a couple of years ago for the now retired Geoff Huffer, but obvious has had his fair share of injuries and missed the entire season last year. As a three-year old, he rattled up a hat trick and one of those win came over course and distance off a similar mark to what he runs off today. Was rather oddly sent sprinting in some smart company thereafter despite the fact all his best form had come over 7f, and indeed made his reappearance over 6f for his current yard at Great Leighs just over three weeks ago. However, he shaped up nicely that day to suggest he retains most of his old ability and now back on his favoured ground over optimum conditions, he should be able to take advantage and score. Musaalem beat trees on his debut last season and has only run once and is now four and can be taken on as he looks too high in the handicap as the form of his win was poor. _________________ Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

2:10 Brighton
Light Hearted SP
ran green but full of promise in warm race (form been upheld). should benefit from that and, if handling undulations, is the one to beat
2:30 Yarmouth
Cool Art (NAP) SP
ran well on debut and unless Cecils newcomer is top notch on his debut, this can go to Cool Art. He was bang there until weakening in the closing stages of a warm maiden on Guineas Day. This is much easier and spoils should be landed
3:30 Yarmouth
EW Black Moma SP
seemed to get his act together last time and if progressing again, should go well. Sofinella is a danger is she builds on slightly disappointing reappearance and will be happier back on quicker going, but Black Moma is taken to hold her form and progress again
4:00 Yarmouth
Ledgerwood SP
not a great race but Ledgerwoods form is head and shoulders above this poor bunch and I cant see him being beaten today. Confidence could be restored if getting his head in front today.
4:30 Yarmouth
Speyside SP
could be a double for John Hills as Speyside also looks a good bet for the win. Will improve for this step to 1m 2f and has already shown good form in 3 staying on runs over shorter. _________________ DONT LET YOUR FAVOURITES FLIP-FLOP!

3.0 YARMOUTH
VIOLENT VELOCITY
Horse and jockey get on well together and 1/3 together at this distance course should suit and should be there at the death after placed efforts on tougher courses last two runs "no extra well inside the final furlong " and "good headway kept on well " time before .
6.5 GREAT LEIGHS
BOZ
This is a question of who will win between selection and ALLEVIATE IMO and i take BOZ to edge it as he could be ahead of the handicapper . Racing Post reckon that horse has not looked back since blinkers were taken off but i think its the application of Jamie Spencer that has done the trick 6wins from 7 times they have been paired says it all and the horses style of running is perfectly suited to Jamies laid back type of riding will back the Prescott horse for a place tho to possibally cover my stake she has not fulfilled her promise especially on the A/W but is 2/2 over this distance and so deserves respect
5.00 YARMOUTH
FOURTH DIMENSION
CAUTION with this one but this is a poor affair and he is 4/4 here .That was over 1m6f tho and yet to win over 2m flat from 2 efforts last was best when 3rd to Atlantic Story class 5 @ Newbury and has won over further over timber , jockey is 1/2 on him and one of those efforts was over an inadequate trip . their one win together was over 1m6f HERE my only bug with this one is that trianer is 1/36 all runners career having said that this is her only winner _________________ NEVER WORRY ABOUT LOSER,S THEY ONLY BRING YOU ONE CLOSER TO YOUR NEXT WINNER

Southwell 2:50 - Choreography - NON RUNNER
Yarmouth 3:00 - Musaalem
Musaalem may not have beaten much on his racecourse debut, but he could only beat what was in the race and you cannot argue with that, but he was doing things easy. I was actually at Warwick that day and he pulled hard, ran green and still came home comfortably in the end. The selection has far more to come than many of his exposed rivals today including Violent Velocity whose gamble was foiled last by Unlimited at Chepstow. Willie Haggas has been keen to point out how his charge was in need of a straight track, was well handicapped and was only seen once as a three year old to preserve what he believes is a good mark. I am inclined to agree with those remarks, and considering that his runner also broke his pelvis as a two year old, it is encouraging to know they have given him plenty of time.
Yarmouth 3:30 - Blackmalkin
I was inclined to give Blackmalkin a wide berth having faltered somewhat on the all weather on recent outings, but the return to turf could show her in better light now and she gets the chance to return to winning ways for Mick Quinn, the selection won her maiden here beating Sundae by 1 3/4 lengths, who went on to win 4 times subsequently and was rated 94 when chasing home Utmost Respect at Ayr on his last start. Blackmalkin handled the slower ground when returned to Yarmouth, and has gone well at the track, full of speed the daughter of Forest Wildcat should be able to burst out of the gates, and if forgiven her run last time she could give the favourite a whole host of problems in faster conditions that clearly suit.

Tuesday's Selections
8:40 Newton Abbot
Estate (NAP) @ 7/2
The market seems to be concentrated on three horses with the betting headed by the Nicholls trained Forest Green who returns to hurdling thrown in on his chase form. We see these types fail time and time again in decent handicap hurdles though and this horse has never actually won a hurdle race in Britain, for that reason he is a no bet at his odds. Dont Be Bleu represents a yard that does particularly well this time of year and also the in-form AP McCoy who is back to his brilliant best lately. But it could be worth siding with the David Pipe trained ESTATE who has been a little unlucky not to notch a hurdles success this year. He was unlucky 2 starts ago when trying 3 miles for the first time as he was brought down when Timmy Murphy was just bringing him into the race travelling ominously well. He then ran a very pleasing race in a Pertemps Qualifier at Haydock behind the eventual winner of the final at Cheltenham Ballyfitz, just emptying out over 3m on the rain softened ground. He was racing from out of the handicap that day so is better off here and also takes a considerable step down in class. There is no doubt Murphy is the best man for the job and this looks ideal over just shorter than the 3miles and on quick ground which should suit perfectly. He is a very strong win selection today.
3:00 Yarmouth
Banjo Patterson @ 14/1 Hmm couldn't build on his reappearance...
This horse has already been touched on by Aidan and is indeed his NAP which is certainly encouraging for me. BANJO PATTERSON is a horse which I followed religiously throughout the summer of 2006 and was convinced he would win a race. Unfortunately that wasnt the case but he ran some very sound races at a good standard (much better than today) that year. He resumed his career last time after nearly 2 years off and from a mark 8 lbs lower than when we last saw him and he ran an encouraging race under the circumstances gradually warming to his task as the race went on and finishing only half a dozen lengths behind in 5th in the end. That was also at Great Leighs so at a course and on a surface he had never encountered before so it is encouraging now that he returns to the excact same conditions as when he last won nearly three years ago over the straight 7f at Yarmouth on quick ground. Down to Class 5 company and also a further 2lbs in the weights he can make his presence felt for new trainer Mick Quinlan who will be hopeful he can bring him back to somewhere near his best. He is an excellent bet at 14/1 and is worth chancing.
4:10 Brighton
Summer of Love (NB) @ 11/2 Another King flat winner!
Bienheureux won very well over C&D last time which bodes well for his prospects here but he has been hit pretty hard having been raised 8lbs. He is a course specialist though with his last 3 wns coming here so cannot be dismissed. The pace should be a decent one set by Prime Number who hasnt won over this trip and all of his best form is over 10f so he should set it up for something else. Generous Lad and Bridgewater Boys go well at this track but neither looks handicapped to win a race of this type at the moment and are passed over in favour of Alan Kings SUMMER OF LOVE. He seems to have improved since being switched to hurdles having won a race and holding his form at a decent level for much of the winter. He returns to the flat off a mark of 60 which is there to be exploited and although he is still a maiden on the level, his last run was in his early 3yo days and he could prove a good deal better than this mark now. Alan King has done phenomenally well with this type of horse so far in the flat campaign and looks to have placed another one to perfection here and with the reliable Fergus Sweeney booked for the ride he can score.
Good Luck

A day for mostly laying for me but I do fancy two that are worth backing from the days meetings.
Bo McGinty (3:20) Southwell * the top weight Xpres Maite has been in fine form of late but he's much higher in the weights here and the drop back to 5f is a big concern for him while Tartatartufata has looked handicapped up to his best for a while now. Gallery Girl is making her debut at this track and has gone up another 3lb for finishing runner-up last time while Luscivious hasn't run the best on his two visits here and is another one who looks too high in the weights at present. Both Garstang and Tous Les Deux look out of it here and so that leaves Hereford Boy and the selection. Hereford Boy has won round here but that was off a mark of 63 and he only just got up that day. His only other run here afterwards saw him finish last of five off 70 and although he has progressed well enough recently he may have too much on his plate in my opinion returning here off 83. The selection has a great record round here (which is always a big plus at this track) having won twice, been runner-up twice and 3rd once from his last 5 starts here. His most recent visit was at the end of last month when he missed the break, giving his opponents a big head start but still managed to get up to win on the line over C&D. He's just 2lb higher today and if he breaks well then he could win comfortably in my opinion. The price at the moment looks too big in my opinion and he should be favourite in my book. Gallery Girl could be a danger if she handles the surface but this one looks the best bet of the day for me. NAP
Speyside (4:30) Yarmouth * ran well on his debut over 1m1f and the drop back to 1m and 7f respectively on his next two starts wouldn't have suited - as proven by the way he ran both times. He ran pretty well over the 7f at Folkestone last time though to take third and the form of the race has since been franked with the runner-up winning next time. This extended 1m2f should right up his street and with improvement expected here he will take all the beating. NB
best of luck,
Deco. _________________ 35 TO FOLLOW
