Its always difficult to take a break mate, coz that one day where everything clicks into place could just be the day you decide to 'have a day off'. I've always got that in the back of my head. I think the most important factor is to look through the cards as soon as the 2 day declarations are released and mark down horses that you fancy. Only have a bet if you really fancy something or see an angle that you think will make you a profit. The biggest mistake i have found is betting for the sake of potentially having a winner. If there is nothing you fancy today, or Tuesday or even Wednesday, wait till Thursday. Its not about having a bet, its about making a profit, thats all that counts in this game. Gambling on horses is a lot like poker, you have to pick the right times to make your moves and the longer you've been doing this for the more you start to naturally know when those times are.. Or at least i hope it works like that or the past 16 months will have been a complete waste of my time |

Was contemplating doing a Chapple-Hyam double in the 2 Folkestone maidens today, am i crazy? Chapple-Hyam having 2 winners in the space of 30 mins? Think that might double his years total Quite a lot of money coming for Mishrif and he does have decent form coming out of a potentially very hot maiden which has thrown up impressive winners already. But.. Captain Ellis is a horse i really liked the look of on debut.. He is massive for a 2 year old and will surely make up into a smart 3 year old. My only concern for him today is the ground conditions, having never been on anything like this before but Karl Burke doesnt send many down to Folkestone so must think he has a good chance of taking to it to send him down there. He is american bred so he wouldnt be an obvious mud lover but then again so is Mishrif. But for me Captain Ellis didnt look completely comfortable on the good to firm last time and could do with some cut in the ground, obviously this looks like being a little more than just 'some' cut but if he takes to it he could be a decent price considering the form he already has in the book. |

Hi All
If at First You Don't Succeed Try Try Again? Ha-Ha so her we go with another "Sounds L:ike" Double!
2:40 Bath RIVER CAPTAIN
Sylvester Kirk's imroving colt left his maiden form well behind when scoring in emphatic style over 7f on easy ground at Salisbury lto. Should enjoy today's ground conditions, and stepped up to a mile, should be able to cope with it's 7lb rise., provided it continues to make improvement?
2:50 Folkestone CAPTAIN ELLIS
Trainer Karl Burke clearly thinks this one shows promise as he has a couple of Group One entries later in the year. Two seconds so far, and was 2nd to the useful Pure Poetry on his debut. Lto there was a suspicion he struck into something in the final furlong and and eventually losing out by a head. Hopefully Fergus Sweeney has learn't enough to hold the horse up for a late charge today and can get in the black type finally!

Really good effort i thought fro Brazilian Art there considering he pretty much had to do it all on his own and the other side definitely looked like the place to be.
After seeing that race though the ground doesnt look all that bad to me. Maybe soft, but definitely not heavy. As Chapple-Hyam had a winner there you can bet the money is going to come even more for his runner in the next but i think these conditions could be spot on for Captain Ellis and he has been crying out for this extra furlong. |

Another impressive winner from the Chapple-Hyam yard.. The good captain travelled like the best horse in the race but didnt find a great deal. Maybe he does need better ground. Take nothing away from the winner though, good to see Chapple-Hyam with a couple of winners.. (I knew i should have done the double ) |
