I'll be on the floor if all of these get beaten and there shall be a lot of going on.
2.10 Leicester - PIQUANTE
She is a daughter of Selkirk out of a beautifully bred mare who though remained a maiden after five starts is related to the likes of Grape Tree Road, Red Route and Windsor Castle. She is trained by Michael Bell and it is common knowledge her work has been to a high standard at home and she has been catching the eye for a while now and was well entered up in the summer. Was pulled out when due to make her intended debut a couple of weeks ago at Haydock when the ground went quick, but she won't have that problem here and the yard are always capable of readying one first time up and Jamie Spencer booked (8-23 with the yards 2yo's this season). Phillipina will be all the rage for the Sir Michael Stoute yard after she started her career outside of maiden company, but the Conditions event she ran in was no more than a glorified maiden and though she showed a hint of ability, is likely to be far too short. Of the other newcomers two note, two that are of interest are Burgundy Ice from the Saeed Bin Suroor yard who is a half sister to the top class US performer Bernardini, and Queen Of Palms, an Indian Ridge daughter of a useful miler trained by Ed Dunlop, both of whom are well bred but are likely to be all the better for the outing.
2.20 Folkestone - PUZZLEMASTER
He is well liked by his trainer George Margarsson and showed plenty of ability when staying on inside the final furlong when sixth in a 6f maiden at Pontefract last month on ground perhaps quicker than ideal. He is a son of Lomitas out of a middle distance mare who has produced multiple winning sprint handicapper Norcroft and also the decent 12f performer Polish Red. The yard haven't done well here down the years with their runners (1-43 in last five years), but this colt surely must go close with the cut in the ground to his liking, on pedigree at least, and also the step up in trip a step in the right direction. Expect a big challenge to come from Blue Tango as he ran a lot better than his finishing position suggests in a 7f maiden at Newbury last month behind Alazeyab. That was a siginificantly better maiden than this one and though he didn't take a prominent position in that, should do better with that experience behind him and the cut in the ground should suit (related to confirmed mudlarks).
3.50 Folkestone - MISS EZE
It goes against the grain to tip a newcomer from the Geoff Wragg yard, but this is such a modest maiden and the reports about this filly are encouraging, so has to be of interest. She is a daughter of Danehill Dancer out of a mare who was useful up to 10f (finished second on her debut at two) and has produced the decent miler Moyenne Corniche, who finished fourth on his juvenile debut. She held a couple of Group entries earlier in the season, but evidently needed more time and given she starts at such a low level, it looks as though connections are hopeful of a decent showing and entitled to go close. Sley did show promise on her debut when fifth behind Bouvardia in a 6f maiden at Yarmouth, but may still need the experience while Sharpener is certainly nothing special on what she has shown so far. Dareh is a filly by Invincible Spirit who only fetched 38,000gns as a yearling at public auction and is trained by Saeed Bin Suroor; yards juveniles usually tighten up for their first run, but is a half sister to two debtuante winners and is accorded respect on that basis and the fact this race lacks strength in depth.
4.10 Leicester - KOSSACK (NB)
He is a highly regarded brother to the top class Milan, winner of the St Leger, and also a half sister to the highly progressive Kahara. He has taken his time to come to hand and following progressive form in 10-12f maidens, came good at Ripon over 12f in what was probably a weak maiden, but couldn't have done it more easier scoring by six lengths despite hanging slightly to his right. Ground probably quick enough for him when third to the useful Fiulin in a 14f handicap at Yarmouth last time and it didn't really enable his stamina to come into play. With the ground pretty testing here his stamina will be seen to better effect here and with more progress likely, should go well for Jamie Spencer who rode him to victory on his penultimate start. Torphichen hasn't seen much of the track, but has shown some promise and following a simple maiden win, was only denied a short head by Tarkheena Prince in a 13f handicap at Ayr, but more needed off a 5lbs higher mark against some progressive sorts. King O'The Gypsies, though faced with a simple task last time, came home eight lengths clear in a 12f maiden at Bath and also showed he relishes testing conditions and is probably the main danger to the selection, though the handicapper has acted accordingly, allotting him a mark of 90. Moonquake has to bounce back from an awful showing last time in a 12f handicap at Doncaster on similar ground and hard to know what to expect from him, though is well liked by his in form trainer John Gosden, but may to settle for a place here.
5.10 Leicester - JULY JASMINE (NAP)
She is a daughter of Empire Maker who is a half sister to the high class Rob Roy, a debut winner at two over 7f who went on to win the Group 3 Joel Stakes and also placed in the Group 1 Champion Stakes and Sussex Stakes and the Group 3 Craven Stakes for this fillies' trainer, Sir Michael Stoute. Her other sibling was a debut winner, albeit at three, and is by a dam who is related to the top class performer Public Purse, a multiple Grade 2/3 winner and third in the Group 1 Dubai World Cup. The yard are churning out the winners now and have had three juvenile debutante winners in the past eight days (all fillies) and given that this filly has been catching the eye on the gallops, her two siblings made winning starts to their careers and the yards juveniles are in such fine fettle, a winning debut must be a real possibility for a yard who a division of this race last season (with a newcomer). Mooteeah showed real promise when fifth to Anice Stellato in a Newmarket (July) maiden back in August and is well bred herself; sure to come on for the run and with the Michael Jarvis yard in such good form of late, she cannot be ruled out with any confidence. Jumaana also showed promise when fifth on her debut behind North East Corner at Newmarket last month, but seemed as though a winter on her back and 10f+ would see her in a better light. Mezenah is a newcomer by Cape Cross and is related to a couple of winners and is out of a half sister to the top class Lammtarra who is trained by Saeed Bin Suroor, but the yards juveniles have tended to need their initial outing. _________________ Nothing ventured, nothing gained. |

Jakeini 2.30 Catterick
NON-RUNNER keep an eye when it comes out next
I backed this horse last time out, and I was rather annoyed when it came to win its race and seemed to idle aongside the eventual winner, Note Perfect. It really should have won, and there had been good money for it. The fact that it runs again 5 days later makes me think they are hopefully looking for compensation. Although Note Perfect won at big odds which isn't great for the form, Jakeini's chances are boosted by its performance 2 runs ago against Haajes and Racoon, where it was beaten 6 1/2 lengths by Haajes. Haajes was a huge gamble at the weekend, and Racoon ran a close second in the same race.
Currently 8 on the exchanges so an e/w price but hoping it wins. Good luck.

Dazzling Begum 3.40 leicester @ 3/1
Made a much belated debut at yarmouth over 7f in a similar race, staying on at the finish and only getting beat by a length and a half. That race will have no doubt brought her on and she looked like a step up in trip would suit her as breeding suggests. That race was similar to this one today where she is taking on some very exposed and poor horses and though not looking anything special on debut she should have enough in her locker to take this very weak looking race.

FESKO -2.00 catterick
should win this on its 3rd to shamwari lodge at haydock , rest of field were well strung out behind
BESSIE LAW - 5.10 leicester
finished 4th under a tender ride on its debut at haydock should come on for that race and at 8/1 will be disappointed if not at least placed
BENEDETTO - 3.20 folkestone
finished 6th last time at goodwood but would have finished a lot closer if it did not get trapped on the rails only getting out in final furlong and running on when race was over , hopefully get a clear run today and should go close in this. |

KHELEYF'S SILVER 3.30 Catterick @ 2/1
Bryan Smart has still his two year olds in good nick and i expect this one too run very well after showing plenty off speed last time when dropped too 5 furlongs which is understanable as she is a half sister too the Group 3 winning Masta Plasta who has shown plenty off speed in top sprints for trainer Dandy Nicholls this season and was twice a winner at 2.. She was quiet expensive at the sales and she can pay £2,226 back to connections at just about 25 minutes too four today if she takes the second division off this Catterick maiden today.. She seemed too put in a much improved effort than when he was 6th on debut at Newcastle over 6 furlongs on soft ground.. It was a good display last time out behind Doctor Parkes who had been a winner waiting too happen for most off the summer and only going down a head after trying too make all at this venue at the end off August and shouldnt have too improve much on that display too figure here today.. Tom Eaves takes the ride.. |
