PostPosted: Tue Jun 30, 2009 7:24 pm    Post subject: ONE A DAY - JULY

The following competition is simple. There will be one race picked at random each day and you have to try find the winner. Although with this comp rather than just typing the name of the horse you think will win you have to write up why you think they will win aswell. Anyone who doesn't put in the effort and writes something like "I fancy X to win because he is white and they are faster", "I like his name", "my friend told me so" etc. etc. won't be considered nor will any copy + pasting from other sites. YOU MUST INCLUDE AT LEAST 4 SEPERATE POINTS ON WHY YOU FANCY THE HORSE.

So what we're looking for here is for you to look at the race and come up with a selection. Then post the name of the horse and write a few lines which must include at least 4 seperate points on why you fancy it and that's it. Smile

* If you want you can enter a second selection (must have write-up also) just in case your first choice turns out to be a non-runner and you don't have time to post again.

* If a race hasn't been posted by 6:00pm the night before then anyone can pick the race - the first one posted on the thread will be the selected race.

* You may not edit your post at any time. If your selection is a non-runner then just make a new post in the thread with your new pick.

* In the case of a selected race not going ahead due to a meeting being abandoned / unforeseeable circumstances then there will be two races selected for the following day instead.

SCORING SYSTEM

1st = 20pts + 3x SP
2nd = 12pts + 2x SP
3rd = 6pts + 1x SP
4th = 4pts
5th = 2pts

To encourage people to look away from favourites aswell there will be bonus points for the price of the horse as shown above. This means that if someone picks a 2/1 horse that wins they will get 26pts (20 for winning and then 3 times 2/1 is 6 -> 20+6=26) while if someone picks a 10/1 shot that comes second they will get 32pts (12+20=32).

PRIZES

1st = £10

2nd = £5

7.30 FAIRYHOUSE

MAOINEACH

Im not totally reved up on the Irish form but i find this race extremely difficult, i have six down with a chance of taking top honours here but it's Maoineach that ive narrowly chosen based on her two career efforts on good-firm. She was brilliant earlier in the year when beating Heart Shaped by a length and three quarters in a group three event staying on really strongly entering the final furlong. I think the trip possibly beat her LTO when again finishing strongly on the outside of the pack to take third close home. Bolger as struggled to throw in a blow in group races of late but his ability of redying one for the big occasion is second to none. Kevin Manning knows the horse very well having ridden her on every occasion to date. Hopefully a huge run is on the cards. Fingers Crossed

FESTOSO

Has been placed in a Group2 race. I don't think she'll mind the going no matter what it's like. A good chance for Harry Dunlop to pick up a good race. She's well up in my ratings and represents a bit of value.

ive backed this horse a few times and has let me down everytine but i know this horse has ability and will win a big race soon,good form so cant knock it fourth to guineas winner ghannati and best of all second in last years breeders fillies turf much better form then its rivals,if it cant win today then it wont win a big race the opposistion is the easiest its had for a while but did get beat by maoineach a while ago

HEART SHAPED

The horse has being contesting better races than this already this year running well for a long way in the 1000 guineas and finishing a very good 4th in that race.
Slight worry only won the once but out of 9 career starts 7 have being at group level and 4 of those at the highest level.
Seems to love fast ground and long as there is no rain should get that tonight.
The drop back to 7 furlongs should be ideal as didnt seem to get home in the coronation or in the guineas.
O'brien has his string in good form and the horse wont lack for fitness with the 2 runs this season already under his belt.
Heffernen rode the horse on her racecourse debut and she seems an easy filly to ride anyway and sure he can get her settled for a late challenge.

tough race and quite a few unexposed types but i think the combination of fast ground and a drop back in trip mean the horse must have a good chance of going close.

MONIVEA

The only Course and Distance winner in the race. Still only a baby, but is progressing nicely. She had a comfortable win here a couple of weeks ago with today's jockey on board. He has ridden her frequently and they have done well together. She performs well on any ground, so no problems there. She is carrying less weight than the other runners, so I have high hopes from this young lady.

Chantilly Tiffany

I predict 2nd or 3rd but hopeing 1st. He is top w8t and one of the oldest horsesthere at 5 year old the horse runs 7 to8 furlongs alot and this race is 7F. The horse has only come 1st twice out of 18 but he is up £12 on the level stakes if you had been betting on him.

Maoineach (USA)

Is a 3-y-o bay filly who debut in August 2008 at Curragh in a 6f course with victory, since then participated in others five race, winning one, and one thirds place on latest outing in June 09 at Leopardstown in a 6f distance. Start's 3 times at today distance of 7f, winning one, never running here in this C&D.

HEART SHAPED - 7.30 FAIRYHOUSE

Big step down from her previous two races and this looks an ideal opportunity to get a deserved win. Her group 1 form puts her well ahead of her rivals on the book. She just weakened at the end of the Coronation stakes and the drop back to 7f looks ideal. She races up with the pace so the ground conditions will suit her running style.

Festoso (IRE)

Very good result on latest outing when win at Haydock in May 09 in 6f distance race, having 16/1 SP, have in total 2 wins, 1 second and 2 thirds place from 9 start's. Difficult last season, just one thirds place, not so good also the start of this season, but as I say exccelent win on latest outing.
