* Please check your scores to confirm they are correct
The following competition is simple. There will be one race picked at random each day and you have to try find the winner. Although with this comp rather than just typing the name of the horse you think will win you have to write up why you think they will win aswell. Anyone who doesn't put in the effort and writes something like "I fancy X to win because he is white and they are faster", "I like his name", "my friend told me so" etc. etc. won't be considered nor will any copy + pasting from other sites. YOU MUST INCLUDE AT LEAST 4 SEPERATE POINTS ON WHY YOU FANCY THE HORSE.
So what we're looking for here is for you to look at the race and come up with a selection. Then post the name of the horse and write a few lines which must include at least 4 seperate points on why you fancy it and that's it.
* If you want you can enter a second selection (must have write-up also) just in case your first choice turns out to be a non-runner and you don't have time to post again.
* If a race hasn't been posted by 6:00pm the night before then anyone can pick the race - the first one posted on the thread will be the selected race.
* You may not edit your post at any time. If your selection is a non-runner then just make a new post in the thread with your new pick.
* In the case of a selected race not going ahead due to a meeting being abandoned / unforeseeable circumstances then there will be two races selected for the following day instead.
SCORING SYSTEM
1st = 20pts + 3x SP
2nd = 12pts + 2x SP
3rd = 6pts + 1x SP
4th = 4pts
5th = 2pts
To encourage people to look away from favourites aswell there will be bonus points for the price of the horse as shown above. This means that if someone picks a 2/1 horse that wins they will get 26pts (20 for winning and then 3 times 2/1 is 6 -> 20+6=26) while if someone picks a 10/1 shot that comes second they will get 32pts (12+20=32).
PRIZES
= £10
= £5 |

selection>smalljohn
has won twice over course and distance so will handle the track and the distance,drawn well in stall five,is receiving weight from most of this lot,good jockey in tom eaves on board,bryan smarts horses always seem to run well and in a wide open race the selection should be a good price. |

KENSINGTON
- Last win was over this course and distance (albeit a long while ago)
- Declan Cannon claiming a few pounds to help in the weights
- Staying on when finishing 2nd LTO over 7 furlongs (today over 7f 32y)
- one of main rivals carmenero failed to win from a lower mark LTO _________________ There are three types of people in this world; those who can count, and those who cannot. |

Forward Feline
A coarse and distance winner here in December off a mark of 62
Only rated 2lbs higer than his winning mark, running off 64 today
Suited by todays trip 1 win in 3 starts over this distance
Should be fit as she ran here at the start of January over 1 mile and whilst the distance didn't suit it should have sharpened her up for this one |

4.50 Wolverhampton - CARMENERO
Beaten favourite last time out 10 days ago, but only by a nose. Previous run to that, this horse won over C&D by 6l. Top weight and ridden by L P Keniry again today. Trainer C R Dore last won 30th Jan. May go off joint favourite and looking to bounce back. |

4.50 Wolverhampton - Straight Face
Backed this horse the last two times,won once for me and second last time out but left it too late and pulled to hard early on,beat by improving horse Headache last time and they was clear of the rest,Headache also beat Carmenero who is in this same race and is fancied and only beat by a nose so its between these two for me but going with Straight Face has i see the horse improving whilst Carmenero will find things tough with the penalty |

SELDOM
Has a good draw in stall one to be able top get a good position just off the leaders. Jimmy Quinn has taken the ride for the seond time after coming second in his last race over course and distance. Possibly coming to hand and Mel Brittain has ben knocking on the door with a few winners last month. This four year old has not run for 52 days and might be better after a long break. This is also his second race on the allweather at Wolverhampton, improvement could be forth with. |

SMALLJOHN Reserve KERSIVAY
A difficult race to get us under way for the new month with many chances as the form line goes. Kensington as been going fairly well of late under five pound claimer, Declan Cannon and should be a big player here over a trip that as seen this McCabe gelding at his best especially given his all weather record. Straight Face as been woken up by the blinkers on his last two outings, including over course and distance were he proved four lengths to good for Hard Ball under today’s pilot JP Guillambert. His all weather form reads very well but he’s only managed one win around here and a eight pound hike for that effort will make life hard now upped in class. Kersivay as yet to score on the artificial surface but his recent efforts give him a good chance of going close now upped again in trip. Five pound claimer, McHugh takes over in the plate this time at the expense of Francis Norton which could prove to be a winning move. Forward Feline scored her only success over course and distance but she’s hard to catch right so for that one reason im willing to leave her alone. Carmenero doesn’t have a great win ratio but he’s proved a tough nut to crack recently over course and distance which included a runaway, six length victory. He’s up another four pound for narrowly missing out LTO by a nose and he will find life tougher now upped in class. Smalljohn as been going very well of late over course and distance and he’s now dropping down the weights which for me makes him the one to beat. The Smart stable as hit a good patch of form, winning two of there four races contested over the duration of last week while the return to the plate for Tom Eaves as to be noted as a positive. Others that have to be noted are Grand Honour who as been sliding down the weights recently and a return to form LTO over the seven at Lingfield maybe a sign of more to come. Seldom produced a very good effort LTO over course and distance, only finding Kipchak to good and a return to the same mark should make his presence felt especially with the form of the stable. Just Timmy Marcus is a very consistent and reliable sort who as run some great races in defeat recently. He should be in the thick of things once again but it’s a slight concern that he’s failed to get his head in front since his opening two races and he might find one to good again.
A very tight contest in which Smalljohn gets a tentative vote.
Good Luck All .... |
