Any technical chaps out there able to help me.
Computer working fine except my E Drive CD-RW.
No matter what kind of disc I put in the tray the computer does not seem to recognise that there is a disk in the tray, therefore cannot play CDs or record any information onto disc.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Does it not recognise at all or does it come up with "Blank CD"?
The former indicates a faulty drive and it would more than likely need to be re-installed, or even replaced, if it is the latter then have you recently installed it? _________________ Top Football Tipster June 2006

E Drive CD-RW Isnt that drive normaly called "D" drive?. Because every PC ive had has been called D drive where you put the CD/DVD for games and music etc.
Or doesnt the letter of the drive matter?. |

The letter doesn't matter, my PC has got two built in drives, "C" and "D", the CD-RW drive is "E", and attaching any hardware to a USB cable goes on drive "F".
my original thought that the drive might have been a "+" drive can't be true as it would have said "Blank CD"
Just a quick question GG to help me ponder some more, has the CD-RW drive worked before or is it new? _________________ Top Football Tipster June 2006

My guess is that the drive has developed a fault, rather than there being a "logical" solution. It obviously isnt reading so the easiest way to find out one way or another would be to replace the drive, they are readily available for under a tenner, and are very easy to fit. Turn off the power, take the side casing off the tower, you will find 2 small screws either side of the drive, undo these, take the cables out of the back, and pull the drive out. Slide new drive in, screw it up and plug in cables, job done. _________________ One Life.....One Chance.......Take It !! |

Did you ever get this problem sorted?!?
Sounds like a device driver problem...
Im asumming your on a windows opperating system....
go to RUN an type this in the exact way i type it devmgmt.msc that will open your device manager now look thru' the list til you see CD-ROM drives (usualy near the top) ... if there is a yellow question mark beside it you will need to reinstall the drivers.
If thats the case, get back to me with the model of your computer an ill find you the right drivers |
