Northern Quest upheld the form with a good second in a better race subsequently and today's 6lb higher mark for Stagecoach Amber is offset by his rider's 7lb claim
The 7lb claim is the bit I'm struggling with! cheers |

the rider's claim reduces the weight horse has to carry, so with a 7lb claim say it was due to carry 10st 7 it would infact carry 10st.
cheers

Tatics,
the rider in question will be one who is not that experienced, and hence has not won that many races, so until he/she hits a certain number of winners (not sure how many) they are allowed to claim some of the weight the horse was supposed to carry (ie by taking the weights out of the saddlecloth) thus making up for any conceived inexperience against the likes of Mr Mc Coy ,Walsh etc. So as they win more races the claim is reduced until they hit a certain number of winners which means they cannot claim. I think the claims are 10lb,7,5 & 3. so trainer will use claimers in cetain races where they can to reduce the weight he horse is carrying.
Think thats right
