| Both excellent Vietnam war films and very hard to say which is better. My personal choice for that type of Movie would be Apocalypse Now for the sheer brillance of the acting and uniqueness of the story. However having to choose between these two I'd go for Full Metal Jacket. Brillantly written. Plus I did read the book The Short Timers by Gustav Hasford on which the film was based on. So I had a feeling for the characters. You saw them from fresh recruits, went through training with them and saw them eventually in action. Fantastic films. I might just dig up my old videos and watch them again right now! |

I would echo manafan's sentiments.
Would add Apocalypse Now to the equation as well. Watch the redux version if you can get your hands on it. Do you wanna know a random fact (some might already know this):
Two major Vietnam war movies made had leading actors who were father-son.
Apocalypse Now: Martion Sheen
Platoon: Charlie Sheen _________________ Numbers and me, Its a love-hate relationship. I love them, they hate me! |

FMJ for me, but just because it was filmed close to where I used to live in the jungles of Beckton, East London.
To be honest though I'd struggle to sit through a full "shoot 'em up" film these days. Why is it that those baddies are such poor marksmen? Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz ! |

full metal jacket for me by far...from start to finish it shows how they are broke down to the bare bones and turned into killin machines..i suppose private pile"s breakdown sums up the mental pressure you go thru.you dont av to be just phsically strong but also mentally as well..and r.lee.ermey"s performance as the drilll instructor..well he wud be your worst nitemare come true.
top notch war film. |
